Two Mosins to choose from..
Two Mosins to choose from..
Hello. I have 3 Mosin Nagants already. I have a 1933 Tula with blade sight, 1943 war torn, and 1944 M44. I am looking at buying a non Soviet Mosin Nagant, and I have a choice between two.
A 1924 Tula, Traded or bought by the Finns, with Finnish sights and sling swivels. No SA mark, apparently it was too early.
And, a 1915 Westinghouse model, with Finnish rebuilt SA marking.
The 1924 has some a slightly dark bore, and it's been counterbored. I don't know much else about the Westinghouse yet. The 1924 is $350, and the 1915 is $375.
Which do you guys think is the better deal? Or the better collectors piece?

The 1924 is a Soviet era Mosin, the Finns would have to capture this, they couldn't buy it, it should have the SA mark if it entered Finnish service. I like the sound of that Westinghouse, but is the 1924 still a dragoon rifle or is it a 91/30 upgrade, Dragoon rifles would have the same sights as the M1891. Get both.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Get the NEW for sure. Get both if you can afford it.

The 1924 is most likely the better of the two. Finn'ed NEW M91's aren't that hard to come by, but dragoons and especially 1920's made M91's can be.
Get both if you can of course.

Get both! You will end up getting a better deal once you negotiate the "package" price! Depending on the feeling I got from profiling the seller I would likely offer $500 for the pair. Point out the dark bore, and other flaws. Pictures would help, but I don't think you could go wrong buying either one of these. Just be sure not to pay the asking price...

Finned Dragoon is what i would grab first.

Have to see them to say for sure, saw a Remington posted yesterday that looked all original except the [SA] stamp! That could go a bit higher!
Re: Two Mosins to choose from..
He says the Finns traded or bought mosins with the Russians before the winter war. He says it saw combat. It was a private deal before he was selling it from his website, so they do not have any cosmoline on them. He says there is no SA mark because it was too early or something. But I saw a picture. It has the Finnish sling swivels, Finnish front sight and the gun was changed to meters. He also says the barrel is slightly frosted, but the rifling is strong. Don't know if I mentioned that.
I don't know anything more about the Westinghouse yet.
I'm in a conundrum!

Get more info, request more pictures & "It was a private deal before he was selling it from his website"?? What does that mean??? Sounds a bit shady... Don't send your Credit Card # to him just yet.

It's a legitimate gun website up here in Canada. He only takes money orders. I will see if he can send more pics though.

As far as I know, after WW1 the Finns and Soviets never traded any rifles unless a captured soldier was attatched to it.

Re: Two Mosins to choose from..
The Finn's bought M1891 rifles from the Germans and Austrians, they had been captured from the Russians during the great war. They never had an opportunity to capture Soviet made Mosins until 1939 when the Winter War with the USSR started, before this the USSR was not trading, or selling Mosins or other arms to Finland. It's possible the SA was left off, I have a Tikka M91 with no SA stamp on it.

I also have a few with no [SA] mark. The lack of an [SA] mark isn't very uncommon on Finnish rifles.
Re: Two Mosins to choose from..
I tried the [IMG] thing, theyre too big and its too complicated right now haha.
What do you guys think? Worth 350?
Re: Two Mosins to choose from..
I think so. It's an M91. 1920's dated M91's are hard to come by, and that one looks nice.Jamjor wrote:

Re: Two Mosins to choose from..
How would they get their hands on a 1924? Would it possibly been traded from other European countries?
Re: Two Mosins to choose from..
It could have come from war or trade. Capture or bought. The finns bought rifles from everybody they could. If they were in usable condition they used them no matter where they came from.
