Classic Firearms
Re: Classic Firearms
New collectors fit right in the current "Now Generation" as I like to call them. They will pay absolutely ridiculous prices for rifles that may never carry a resale close to what Classic is pricing them at and not think twice about it. One of my buddies friends offered me $550 for my RC and I turned it down about 2 years ago. Told him I had principles and I couldn't sell it to him at that price and I really wasn't planning on selling it at all. I paid $249 for it from one of the Good guys now gone, old buddy Garry Cole. Gosh I miss the long talks I had with him at the Knob Creek Machine Gun shoot for so many years. He was very knowledgeable and a complete gentleman and often talked me out of things he had and after they were gone he would tell me why he didn't want me to buy it. What an honest man he was! One of the real things I learned from Garry was that most dealers took what their sources said about what they were selling as the gospel truth and it rarely was!! Kind of scares you doesn't it. Well who knows what the used car salesmen of Milsurp rifles will have next to hawk at us. Bill

Re: Classic Firearms
Breaking news....I'd still never buy a damn thing from them no matter if they were the only seller. The whole thing of they go on sale at a certain time is bs as well. I think they got taught by another seller.

Reminds me of the old days were the used car dealers would wear white shoes and a white belt and get on the TV and "hock" their used cars off! This is their business. "Buy low and sell high"!!!! Make everyone think this is the end of them (which is probably not too far off) to stir up the frenzy. Setting a time they will go up for sale??? What is with that. I have never understood that...ever. I buy and take my time to buy .....what I want. I'm not getting in any line to fight over anything. sounds too much like a "midnight madness sale" or something.
I have never bought a firearm from a place like this, but if you have the cash.....then buy away. What was that old saying?....oh yes....."a fool and his money are soon parted". I can't in my life believe anyone is asking $1200 for a Russian capture K98. Maybe if this was the year 2536 or something like that, but 2016....No
I bought my k98 (that I am keeping) a few years back now (but not that many). It is not a RC k98. It is all matching down to every ser#. Came out of the collection of a very well known Author of several books about K98's, and I paid $1200 for it.......ALL MATCHING!!!!!! NO RC!!!!! Just a few years ago now. so, I figure thats at least 10 time an increase for the RC rifles now, so mine must be worth over $10,000!!!
For sale: one K98 Mauser. All matching and never "touched" or altered in any way......$10,000

Re: Classic Firearms
Mine would probably glow if you hit it with luminol and a black light, easily $30,000
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: Classic Firearms
I have $900.00 in my every part all numbers matching K98 Mauser. I see how Classic is getting paid for their hype, but I still just don't understand why people are paying that when there are cheaper and better options out there even on Gunbroker. Fool and their money soon parted is the truth dolk. That was one of my grandpa's favorite sayings back when I was young and wanted to buy anything I saw if I had the coin for it. I don't even watch Classic's videos because I've seen enough commentary on the "snake oil salesman" to know I'm not wasting my time.
I'm right there with you. It's a shame that people are paying those prices, and not doing their research.dolk wrote:I bought my k98 (that I am keeping) a few years back now (but not that many). Their business pracitices seem outrageous and i don't think i'm buying another rifle from them. Even though I am satisifed with my purchase, probably not buying from them again.joe7170 wrote:Oh man and the last one is a doozy. That had to have come from the Samco sale. Sounds exactly like what they had in stock. If so that is insane.joe7170 wrote:Oh man and the last one is a doozy. On a side note what happened to New England Firearms Dealers? They either are out of business, work 4 days a week 6 hrs a day, or have very little stock.
I found one with a decent amount of stock, but their prices would make Classic blush. Non Matching SVT-40 for $2,200, basic No4 Mk1 FTR with bayonet for $1,100, Russian M44s covered in grease for $550, mismatched Chilean M1912 with barely visible crest for $650, plenty of Springfields and Garands all above $1,500, and the toppers were the $6600 and $8500 G43 and G41. I didn't bother checking if they were matching, because I was too afraid to touch them at that price.
I didn't get any new rifles, but I did get to check out the Springfield Armory Museum today, which was pretty cool. I wasn't able to spend as much time there as I would have like to, but I did take pics of just about everything.

Re: Classic Firearms
Play nice everyone, how Classic tends to their business is their business, not ours, it's a buyer beware world no matter were you go. What was that suit commercial guy always saying? An informed consumer is our best customer? Well you are informed, buy or not accordingly, in the meantime play nice, whoever this Ben guy is, I am assuming it's one of that company's new owners? Lets leave the personal attacks to PM's.

Re: Classic Firearms
JYD and I have been out of there since the chromed M44's which is one owner back and many years ago. By the way I saw one of those chrome ones for sale at York gun show and the tag said Kremlin Guard Mosin!
Dolk if you were working at Classic I wouldn't even want your dog! (I do really think that is one adorable puppy too) Just like I don't want anything Ben sells! Bill

Re: Classic Firearms
I have been out of there since they sent me two once very nice 91/30 refurbs in the same box with a single wrap of paper between them. They arrived scratched and half out of the box, when I called to complain they blamed it on the FNG who packed the box and basically told me to go fuck myself. The chrome milsurps just ensured I would never think of being a repeat customer. That was many years ago now, maybe even a decade.

Listen, you are not the only one here that was around when they were selling those chrome pieces of crap and refused to buy from them. However, I let that go when the new owners took over at the time. Why would you blame the new owners for what the old owners did. That seem misplaced and narrow minded.zeebill wrote:JYD and I have been out of there since the chromed M44's which is one owner back and many years ago. However it has been shown that the new owners are perhaps as bad as the old owners, but in their own way. These guys are what they are based on their own business dealings. Shame that the purchase of the company did not really change much.
Bill, I don't buy and sell firearms, nor would I ever work for Classic ....... and I wouldn't sell you my dog anyway.

I wouldn't or maybe couldn't would be better sell that puppy either. It was not narrow minded I was just considering the present state of affairs there and their prices and business practices. As you rightly said they haven't changed much. Bill

Unfortunately, one always "hopes' that a poor owner selling out to a new owner will produce a better company. Sadly, I guess that is not always true. Sometimes it is worse. That's really too bad. Oh well, maybe next time???
