when I... that cries out to be finished
When I took my AR and just hosed down the shitbox from front to back, one clip after another until the barrel was red and the plastic smoking. Then I went looking for the careless old lady's house with a bag of fresh dog shit in one hand and matches in the other
Too bad about the accident, don't let the junkman flim flam you when you dump it, we do very well with Honda's that come in here. We even have guys fighting over the 20 year old 300,000 mile shitboxes we get in if they still run, and sometimes even if they don't. The late model wrecks we get last about a month before they are little more than skeletons.

I just had a '98 civic come in, we left it out front of the shop over the weekend and already someone started stripping parts off it. Dam fool did it under the eye of the security cameras so now he is in deep shit with us. What did you put in that thing for $1800? The head?

Damn Drago, sorry to hear about the accident! I hope you're OK and that things work out well. Gotta respect a man that is in a wreck, but still hurries home to sight in his AR

Thanks again for all your help and again, I hope it all works out for you.
First off, I love this rifle! It operated flawlessly and did everything expected of it. Even I was able to keep my cool and not fumble the load sequence

. I was a bit worried about the 30 round mag, but it inserted smoothly and no round ever hung up. They wouldn't allow my FMJ ammo (even though it met their max energy level for FMJ) so I had to buy 50 rounds soft tip, 55 Gr ammo for $25. It was worth it...but 50 rounds wasn't near enough lol.
The indoor range is only 25 yards, but that was good enough for a first outing. The gun shot a bit low and I shot a bit eratic:
I did say a silent prayer of thanks to Pfc. E. Woods. I wish I could have made a better showing!
The sights were very simple to adjust and I was surprised and thrilled to see the shots working closer and closer to center as I made adjustments. I didn't get it quite zero, but its close enough until I get outdoors. I finally calmed down as well and was able to hold more steady. I ended with this (5 shots...dedicated to BuckeyeSgt):
I was really, really happy with how well the rifle shoots! I realize this is only 25 yards...but I haven't shot a firearm in 20 years either lol. I was free standing with my belly against the shelf. It was too low to rest my elbows on comfortably so I did the best I could. I feel confident that the rifle would perform way better in the hands of a skilled shooter! And that to me is perfect
And now, for the one I am most proud of! After the first couple of rounds, I glanced over at my daughter and she looked a bit scared. I asked her if she was ready to try and she simply shook her head no really fast! After I shot maybe 20 rounds, she got up the nerve. She lowered the gun after the first shot and sort of laughed, but she shouldered it right away and fired her second round. She kind of laughed again, but then got serious and it was hard to get the gun back!
The target was at 15 yards. I think she did pretty damn good considering!
Oh, I forgot to mention...its also a really nice fireball maker too
To all those that helped answer my numerous questions...thank you. This one's a keeper!

With all the help and advice you've given me...and been correct every time, I feel like I owe you
You were right...very right. I love this rifle and don't miss the cash at all. Two months from now, the money would have been gone anyway. Now I'll have this rifle for the rest of my life. Well, unless my daughter takes it lol.
Thanks millman

JYD, I looked @ my receipts. $1600. New radiator, points, plugs, wires, distributor, timing belt, throttle control sensor and long blocked the engine (mostly). New head, valves, pistons. 207,000 miles on original economy Vortec.

Thx, MN, no one was hurt, just my wallet & pride! I am lucky I went under the truck a bit, because the airbags didn't deploy. I'll shoot pics of the car, tomorrow. I think it drives weird now, so I think the upper control arm may be bent. *shrug*

Pretty nice shooting, MN. Very nice.
On sighting it in, shouldn't you be a little low at 25 yds because the sights are so much higher than the barrel? I have mine sighted in for 50 yds. I'm a little low at 25, but supposedly right on again at 200 when the bullet starts dropping. That should put me within a couple inches of POA anywhere inbetween. Probably a hundred ways to sight these in, or half a dozen anyway

Pac, now that you mention it, I think you're right. I'll leave it be for now until I get outdoors and get some distance...and a scope lol. It was odd, with my glasses, I could see the rear sight and the target just fine. The front post was pretty fuzzy though. I did have a couple of 5 round groupings that are not publishable
Thanks Rongo

Yep, it has been a long time. I still miss being able to go out in my backyard and shoot when I feel like it. The indoor range is really nice and the guys who run it are great but its just not my thing.I am anxious to get outside for several reasons!

You should have told the kid from the start that the AR is easy enough for an 80 year old grandmother to handle

No " recoil" to speak of, it's a 20th century rifle. Not bad shooting as an ex Army pal of mine who prints dime sized groups with the M16 would say, last time he said it with a smirk on his face as I shot my AR I handed him an 1891 Argentine Mauser and watched him print a shotgun spread on the target with it. Then I leaned over and said " not bad shooting there"

Indoor shooting is not my idea either, never did it, I like to practice shoot and move, something indoor ranges would frown on.
Entire engine in that Honda, I have a '98 here with just under 300,000 on the original engine, what happened? I didn't know they still had points inside the distributors, we sell every Honda distributor we get but I never opened any of them up to see what was inside, just assumed it was a magnetic pickup. They do blow head gaskets, I have at least three that died of that, the accord on the other hand seems to be immortal, probably the only 20 year old car we still get in running on a regular basis.

After I got her up and moving this morning, she was sort of rolling her shoulder around. I asked if she had slept wrong? She said "No, I've got AR shoulder" lol.
She's a good kid and puts up with me. She's had $150 hair styles and I've spent as much on glasses and contacts this school year as I did on the AR. She has more make up than I have ammo. On the way home, she asked if I thought she could shoot a Mosin when she's 14. A bit later, she said something like we should get some pepper spray. I said..."Pepper spray? Why would we need that?" She smiled and said..."To go with that a-salt rifle" lol. She set me up and I fell for it

Why MN... it almost seems you are trying to justify your gun affliction, errr, I mean hobby, by comparing it to how much you spend on your daughter... almost...

Just what is done to hair that costs $150?

I buzz my own with a trimmer, saves $20 a month in barber fees that I then use for guns

After my accident yesterday, I wasn't going to let that stop me from my plan to sight in my new AR upper and new Trijicon scope.
"Ouch"
At that point I REALLY needed to shoot something, so I did.
I can only safely shoot 50 yrds on my own property, but I still set up using 100yrd targets. I was using some Tula "hunting cartridges" in the white box. Pretty cheap rounds, but they did the job. The first 3 rounds, the grouping is pretty wide, but that was just me and my nerves and settling into this. I've never fired it with a 5.56 upper, as I previously had a 6.8SPC on it.
In 9 rounds I had the scope pretty close and then shot at the corners of the target (test set 1 & 2), did 2 more clicks to the left and shot 6 rounds at the thick square, which is another target on the same sheet of paper. When I find a place to get out to 100yrds+, I can make minor adjustments to elevation, but I was pretty happy with everything overall. Never fired this upper before, but my friend I bought it from said it should shoot 1/2'-1". I did have a couple FTF/stovepipe's, but a quick squirt of some silicon lube fixed that issue and had no more issues after that. This upper had only 20 or so rounds fired through it before I shot, so everything is still pretty tight.

OUCH! That looks like it hurt! Well, the good news is you are OK. The car can be fixed or replaced. Glad you're OK Drago!
Nice shooting! It looks like it was putting 'em where you were pointing it! I am anxious to get some distance on mine. When you get time, could post up a photo of your AR? I need to get a new scope so I can see and would like to get a visual on what a true gun collector like you would use. I find several mall rifles online, but not many photos with just a scope. I just bought a few new ones recently, but they are not anything I'd put on the AR. It would be sort of like the SWAT team showing up in full gear and cowboy hats.
I have that red dot BSA I bought recently, but it doesn't amplify the field, just simply a dot. I do have a shorter, stout NcStar 3-9 that may work. I need to get some proper rings though.
Glad you're OK and good luck with the car!

Well, I really wanted to build my dream AR, but not get into the prices of an LWRC rifle. I wanted to go with a piston upper, but that will just have to wait. I can do a conversion on this one at a later date. But here's what I have so far.
This is before I put the Trijicon ACOG scope on it, with just Magpul BUIS on the rear and I think the front sight is a Troy Industries collapsible. The stock is a Magpul ACS. The foregrip is a "Grip Pod" and I like that it has a built in bipod. Was handy yesterday.
Spikes Tactical lower with Rock River 2-stage match trigger
Trijicon ACOG scope
Everything together with a flashlight
