Welcome to the board, you started collecting Mosins at a good time, right as the Ukrainian hoard was pouring at a the cheapest prices

Hi there!

Just joined. I collect many C&R's and antiques. I do have a couple of special Mosins in my collection.

A few here might know me from Calguns.

Another mosin fan here. I've definitely got the sickness. Only 2 so far though. I have a 91/30 and an M44 so far, but there will definitely be more.

New here, from Illinois.

Sent in my C&R application three weeks ago and am waiting for my license.

I think I will start out by buying a 91/30, cleaning off the cosmoline, and shooting it. See where my interests go from there.

Hi, I got my first Mosin Nagant about a month ago and absolutely love.
Having some problems with my stock and I found this site while I was trying to find a solution.
I'm very happy to have found a collectors forum for this rifle.

Hello, I'm a new guy that just purchased my first Mosin Nagant (91/30 Hex) last weekend. I just wanted to post so as not to have my account deactivated. I'll probably spend more time reading and learning than posting, and I look forward to becoming more knowledgeable on my new rifle.

Okay, so I took the time to write a long post and when I posted it, the forum timed me out. I even thought about copying my text before posting but I didn't. Sigh...

Suffice to say, I'm a newbie with one 91/30. A Black Friday "Dunham's Special" purchased in 2011 for $79.95. Nothing "special" about it's collector value though - but I love it! It's a counter-bored 1942 Izhevsk with rough machining, and very poorly stamped letters and numbers on the reciever. I picture it being manufactured quickly and furtively during the siege of Stalingrad and then kicked/beat around by some rear support troop who probably wished he was harvesting wheat. Just the story I have created for my rifle.

Eventually, I would like to get something worthy of collecting and relegate my first rifle to meat hunting. The Gander Mountain in town always has a crate in stock, and there are some interesting rifles in there (MUCH nicer than mine), but at $179.99 it could be awhile. Although I have to confess, I would have the $$ if I hadn't purchased a younger bro to go with my 91/30 - a 1956 Tula SKS... and a CZ-82 handgun... thankfully for my wife, I am completely out of spending money. Hopefully there is still some surplus left when I have some spending money in like 10 years :D

I am joining because I have a few questions and would like to participate in some discussions. Cheers!

Welcome to the board, always copy long texts. Your rifle is something special, it's a relic of one of the darkest chapters in human history, 1942 was a terrible year for much of the world. Stalingrad, the Nazi's had killed millions already in Russia and would kill millions more, 1942 was the closest the USSR would come to collapse and loss to the Nazi's. Sounds like your rifle saw some real action, and the look of it shows how desperate the Soviets were in that year. Great find.
