Wartime saw the highest production levels, how many exactly we can only guess, but into the millions for sure.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I went to the Cabela's here the other day to look at a Browning BAR and while I was there asked the guys at the gun library if they had any Mosin Nagants and was told this. Well I will tell you we got some but we will not sell you any right now we are waiting to put them up for sale.zeebill wrote:Most Cabela's are local controlled and the Boss of the Library will make the call so that can be a crapshoot on whether corporate releases them to the stores and then whether the local boss says to sell them. Put 3 on layaway yesterday at my LGS. One was a 33 hex. I think it was a Tula but I can't remember for sure. The others were round being a 37 and a 38.
Re: Where did all the 91/30's go??
Three or four months ago, I walked into my LGS and found a 1940 Tula undrilled but sniper proofed 91/30, oddest part was that it was one of only two left out of the entire crate. One moth later found an Izhevsk 1943 ex-sniper in a nearly full crate, they cost me $129.99 with accesories and at the time I thought they were high priced, now I see they were not.

Two things I don't like on rifles- electro pencil and big ugly PW Arms billboards- personal preference.Junk Yard Dog wrote:You realize that serial numbers stamped or ep'd don't hurt or help the rifle in any way? Both are acceptable, every collection should have examples of both styles. Never turn away an otherwise nice rifle just because of serial numbers.

I think the thing I don't like on the refurbs is they tend to need a re-break-in period. I have put around 600 rounds through my first 91/30 (42 Izhevsk) & it finally is getting smooth as silk. I like the old Finn Captures better, already well broken in. But I must admit it is kinda fun getting a refurb back in the groove.

Some of the refurbs I got were as good as broke in right out of the box, others were smooth as coffee grinders. The Issued 91/30's out of Romania, they were well broke in, like an old shoe, and sometimes looking like such also
