Re: New Members, Make your first post here!
Hello. After years of shooting and collecting I finally fell into the trap and bought a Mosin three weeks ago. My first one is a Tula Arsensal, 1924, 91/30,
all original with bayonet, sling, oiler and ammo pouches. Beautiful condition everything matching. I plan to shoot it, so I did add removable shims. I also increased the front sight height by applying a piece of black heat shrink, easily removal, and a thin washer shim under the trigger spring. Yesterday I bought a Finnish Mosin,1944, "B", 91/30. Everything matches except the bolt is Russian Sestroyetsk, with a struck thru serial number. This one stays as is. Good barrel and everything complete. The stock, old and original, has two round plugs thru the butt. Could I dare think that these were bullet holes repairs? Probably not, but one of the aspect of collecting is the mystery of the history of the weapons.

first post here.....ok...
I have a 1932 VKT Fin that I am curious about an educated opinion of the value.
1 of 2150 from VKT as I understand. Received some interesting comments at a couple local gun shows.
will send pics upon response to request.
Can someone here assist me w a fair value estimate?
Planning to post on an auction site, but want to do a little more research re value before entertaining an offer.
Not that I would be opposed to an offer also.
Thank you

Just got an M24 Lotta rifle. Have some questions for you guys...It has a one piece stock that looks like walnut. The cross bolt is nicely centered. Has a crossed cannon stock stamp with an A in the center also has an AV 3 stamp. There is no SA stamp, but has the civil guard serial Number. Any idea who made the stock? Also can't find any reference for the crossed cannon with an A symbol. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks and regards

The known letters and numbers are L, Z, S and 8, but it's stated it could be any letter. AV3 means Arms Depot 3, denoting the the stock was made there and is a Finnish made stock. If I've made any mistakes someone will correct them.subvet303 wrote:by subvet303

Thanks Mike, that's about all I could find also. Guy who sold me the rifle says he's pretty sure it's a Finnish made stock. Finding out all you can about Finn rifles is what's so interesting. Seems very few are the same. When I learn how to post pics of my collection, I'll post them.

Hello, I just found this place and I'm glad I did. Last Saturday I purchased a 1954 Mosin-Nagant and am excited to find other folks interested in these rifles. Mine has the fold out bayonet, but I believe it is missing the cleaning rod. I'll have to work on finding one to put back on it so it is as original as possible. Anyway glad I found you guys and look forward to seeing all the great rifles and being part of the discussions.

Welcome!! What you bought was a non- Russian- Mosin Nagant. Depending on what it is, one of the old soviet satellite states or china. Russia stopped making the M44 in the late 40's( 48 or 49?) or close.gwbruce wrote:Hello, I just found this place and I'm glad I did. New member and glad I found this site. I bought a CIA 91/30 PU 15 years ago and put it in the safe. Never shot it. But now I've renewed my interest thanks to this site. Pics to follow. Thanks.

Hi all. I got my start with a beautiful old Remington Mosin Nagant. I now have that, a Tula 91/30, and both an Hungarian and (in shipping) a Polish M 44. Oh, both a beautiful Chinese P 53, and a mixmaster Romanian SKS. I’m here to learn, and I hope I don’t embarrass myself too often.

Hello. Ive been hooked on mosins for a few years now. Been shooting my friends rifles for sometime and on a whim decided to drop a few dollars on a '43 izhevsk. Numbers matching refurb that spoke to me. It had a smooth bolt and action and felt better than all the other rifles my enabler let me shoot. So home it came. Upon further inspection it has a tula bolt head and it looks like a previous owner took sand paper to it and the cocking piece. Also im suspicious the stock is not original. It now has an Izhevsk m39 trigger and trigger gaurd/magwell. I believe in keeping it period correct. Shes a shooter and im looking to be more proficient with her.

Mine on the left. 1927 hex on the right.

My name is Jeff,
New to forum. I've put an M38 on layaway, but I'm trying to talk myself into buying a 91/30 instead. I love the history and look of the 91/30, but I'm not sure I would like the length! The gun shop owner suggested the M38 for hunting hogs and deer for my purposes, but after reading about it's stouter recoil, I seem to be second guessing my decision. Any advice is much appreciated!

Re: New Members, Make your first post here!
Never mind that recoil bollocks, the M38 is just a shorter version of the 91/30, and not a true short carbine like the Mauser G33/40 or the Enfield No5. It just seems like it shoots differently due to the increased muzzle blast out of the shorter barrel. I have shot thousands of rounds from the M38 and it's cousin the 91/59 as well as the M44. Like anything else you practice with it until you get used to it, Mosin carbines are easily manageable. Proper placement of the buttstock in the shoulder pocket will greatly alleviate felt recoil as will some serious range time until shooting the weapon is second nature. Bambie will rarely hurt you if you screw up a shot, but a feral hog will kill your ass given the chance. They are rocket fast, and mean as a stepped on snake with wicked teeth and tusks, they will rip you open and then eat you. The M38 is maneuverable in close cover, has four follow up shots in the magazine, and enough punch for hog, and it's mate who you didn't notice was nearby and now it's coming for you. The gun shop owner wasn't bullshitting you about the M38, myself I would use my Marlin 45/70 because I have seen what pigs can do and I respect the hell out of them, I would also have a buddy with me packing a shotgun with slug to watch my six. Get the 38, get a few hundred rounds or more of ammo, spend some range time learning the rifle before you use it in the bush, you will get used to it.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Hi, my name is Natasha, totally new to firearms but always loved the Russian arms. Picked up a while ago my first. A 1954 SKS, which I spent 5 hours cleaning all the cosmoline off. Had been reading up in the Mosin Snipers to find my frst. I recently had the opportunity to look at two, I had put some money to hold one while I looked at the other. One was a Tula, the other a Izhevsk, well the first place got their nose out of joint and said I bought it. The Izhevsk was less, but looked more legit, and sold that same day. So I have a 1944 Tula which I fear is actually a fake, the rifle numbers match, the scope mount had electro pencil of the rifle number and scope number. I will be starting a post for it soon, once I have all the pictures ready. Oh and it is a Tulsky, but this is all I can find. No other import marks anywhere.

Hi all,
Just joined. I’m a new shooter from the UK. I’ve been shooting mostly 22LR but picked up an M91/38 as my first centre fire.
I’ve read quite a bit on this and other forums, so have some clue what I’m doing now but still have lots to learn. So far it seems to shoot okay given my limited skill, although a little high from the sights. I’ve also stripped the rifle down to clean it after shooting Soviet Surplus ammo ok.
