You have to love that wartime look :)

That's for sure! something about that rifle screams war. My 35 seems more refined and mellow. Its amazing to me how well the bolt and trigger function on the 43 when you look at how rough the fit and finish are. That rifle is all business!

Another nice one. How did I miss this thread? I saw it last night and but never got back to it. So many rifles and so little money. Be careful with moma understanding the disorder to well. She may just join you, lol. I guess it could be worse.

Clairmont to El Cajon. That's a dedicated collector.

wasted trip. they had a 1943 Izhevsk. so i said "i'm gonna go on AIM Surplus. " so i did ordered 2 of the $89.95 mosin nagants and with shipping it's $221 shipped to my door. big 5 is $119 each plus 8.75% tax plus $25 criminal check each. which means $152.60 each and never forget 11 day wait. my C&R will pay off the $30 for 3 years.

1943 Izhevsk's are good rifles also, that was the Mosins highest production year so it isn't surprising to run into them.

I over looked 43s because they were so common. the one on this post sat at my fgs for a month. Now that I have it I'm glad I pulled the trigger. The bore is excellent, the action is excellent, the trigger is tight. The wood is in great shape. I cycled the action while the rifle was shouldered and it was smooth as silk. These are very worthy rifles.imo.

1943's are fascinating rifles to have, some will be so rough looking they seem to have been hand made as a 5th graders first metal shop project, others are as nicely finished as any Mosin made before the war, and they cover every stage between.

Yup, just look at the contrast between the barrel shank and receiver.

I like those receivers, they show the desperation of wartime when one is losing, as the USSR's fortunes on the battlefield improved so did Mosin finish quality.

all 3 had cyrrilic letters in front of numbers that matched barrel. bolt and butt plate. i probably should have grabbed 1 but i saved $40 each buying from AIM. plus big5 had a 1943 infantry rifle = reproduction sniper. $619. AIM has refurbed real snipers for $579

I am thinking you will not be disappointed with the aim ones. They seem to be a pretty good place as far as i can tell. Big 5 is not bad either but the rifles pretty much come from the same pile. :D

In the dead of the night the ghoul attached to at least one of them comes out, makes a phone call to Aims answering service, leaves a message " send more Mosins" and the numbers off your credit card it's stolen out of your wallet as it stood and watched you sleep earlier :) That's how Mosins multiply .
