Oh, the heavyset gentleman who stretches the truth in various gun selling videos. He's probably the fuckin' new guy in shipping back 12 years ago who clusterfucked the packing on two " rifles of the day" being sent to me. Promoted to advertising now of course.

Yes, scratch the shit out of the shellac on a nice rifle I paid for by tossing two rifles in one box with a sheet of paper for packing and I do positively hold a grudge, I don't care how many times the company changed hands. I had a evil spell cast, hair will fall out, teeth loosen, balls shrivel like raisins, and they can forget about bowel regularity.

Try it as is, you might be surprised. For your matches, you might be better served with a Finnish M39. Although if you want to be sure you win, go get a Swedish M96 Mauser.

HUH ? I've several that will shoot all 9-10 rings back when I could see 100 yds. Almost M-39 accurate.

I will definitely try as is millman. I need a base line to start with. No doubt you do steelbuttplate. In the course of my RSO duties I have the privilege of seeing exactly what folks with their weapons can and can't do. Not a few are sent back to the 25/50 to find their POI so we can know where they are at 100+. Like I said, it will be fun.

Thanks Mike,interesting....looks like Fox got 48 crates, 960 Mosins, from of all places Austria and not the Ukraine as Classic said. Just a guess but possibly the rifles came out of the Ukraine but due to Obama's embargo, they couldn't be sold to us from there so somebody funneled the rifles out of the Ukraine to to Austria where they were legally sold to Fox. Some of the high prices we are seeing on these latest rifles would be due to everybody touching these rifles on the way here got their pound of flesh. Seeing these get here must have pissed off P.W. Arms and of course Century Arms the two main importers of Mosins over the past time.

Yeah I'm not sure what the rules are now but from what I've been told to import firearms that came from a restricted/embargoed place they would have to go to a neutral country and sit for a period of time, something like two years if memory serves me correctly. I know in the past Jeff Sorrentino who owns USAC Sales and used to import a fair amount of the 7.62x54R and 5.45x39 7N6 surplus from Ukraine told me about some of his logistical problems with that type of thing. One was finding shipping routes through Europe. Most stuff used to ship out of Ukraine, even if it wasn't from there but he once had to redirect a shipment through Germany to send it off after Russia went in to Ukraine. There's a lot of things going on in the background the public doesn't understand including what you said, so many hands touching this stuff before it even leaves over there. One thing he was always in mind of was going through ports that might seize the whole shipment for one reason or another so he had to use shippers that knew where to go and they've been dwindling.

Those Chinese SKS's that came in from Albania back in 2012 had been sitting there for 20 years in a cooling off period. I don't believe the Russia embargo included the Ukraine so there would there would be no cooling off period for actual Ukrainian "hunting rifles" from there as these were imported as if Classic can be believed. I would really like to see and have explained, the additional markings on the magazines on these recent imports.

I didn't hang around waiting to hear the prices. But, after reading above, they are priced very high. I really don't understand how they can sell them for so much. But, there has been an influx of newbies in the market as evidenced by some of the sales on GunBroker. The starting prices on GunBroker are fairly high with many in the $300+ categories and they aren't selling. On the other hand people will buy from Classic at much higher prices. :bonk: One thing I noticed with the s/n on one of them on the top of the receiver indicating a different importer. The boxes are new too. Weird. But they don't appear to be the tradition CIA or PW ARMS imports. All in all, typical yet overpriced refurbs.

Looks like J&G sold all theirs. They were a few $$ can't remember above Classic price.

JYD, you mentioned that, back in the day before any info was readily available on Mosin Nagants, we were buying these rifles blindfolded. An absolute classic example of that is me owning a SAT barrel for 25-30 years and having no clue what I had.

Having been cut down to size over that, rest assured I spend a LOT more time researching rifles that I am apt to gather for my pile.

Hey Kjohn, isn't that SAT one of the rarest ones going?

Yes. Two that are known in the US, plus another one that a collector in Canada found, but passed on it, and mine. Fairly rare, I'd say.

I eliminated most of the quote necause the only thing that really counted was yours and others similar opinion toward the current price raises going on in the market today. Cases are available now for around $2500 plus on refurb 91/30's So figure in shipping and a dealer has maybe $275 or so in them a piece. The US government bulletion to the business man of today says try and make 45% plus on anything you sell. So lets say a straight 50% of $275 the buying price. Again using loose math that would be adding $140 to $275 or around $415 each. Not that far from what Classic is asking and makes a lot of the gun show prices look great in the $300 range. Look at those profit margins and try and see where the major profits are being taken assuming the originators prices he pays have not gone up that much. Oh it varies I am sure from operation to operation but the shipper or the original seller to the shipper are grabbing their money for sure. Add in the fact that everyone who touches them is going to take a cut and you have a pretty good picture of the market today. Keep in mind when you get a case you generally have no control of what rifles are in there. Might be only two or three collector valuable rifles in each case so the seller is not getting any sure value when he buys a case. You might get a bunch of words but no warrantee is included. So when the dealer quotes you a price and is very hesistant to give you any break think about his viewpoint too. If you get a deal at a gun show he is giving you money out of his profit and nothing else. Now it used to be that the show dealer had lower overhead but with things at gunshows being so tight that really isn't the case anymore. We go to shows these days just hoping to pay the bills and expenses of everything and breaking even in the bank account.

Keep in mind I am different from most dealers in that I am just mostly trying to bring in money on the Kevin Carney Collection we are selling off. I try to bring money home for his widow and sell ammo and table fodder to cover the expenses. Most of the dealers at gun shows are on the road every weekend and maybe doing flea Markets during the week to make a living. It's dam hard to do these days. Especially if they are selling modern guns or accessories as the profit margin in that stuff is tiny and the bigger get better prices buying their stock so they can afford to sell cheaper. I am glad I have most of the things in my life paid for except vehicles but they always wear out with the miles we run these days. When you get right down to it, if I didn't like it I wouldn't do it I guess. Usually the guys closest to you in the feeding cycle are not that much n=better of than you so keep that in mind. :soapbox: Bill
