your like 5 hours away from me, thats at least $100 in gas. I don't mind a road trip, but I need to be sure your serious about being able to fix it before I drive up...

Plus I'd like to try all the stuff listed above before I even resort to a 10 hour round trip. If its gonna cost me more than $50 more to fix this I'm offically ditching it. as $400+ on an M38 is well beyond what I think is reasonable.

Hey, I hate to hear about what you are going through. PM me your address and I will send you a bolt to try out. I will put my headspace gauge in there for you to check out if you want. But you should order one anyways. And if you don't send it all back I will have your address and I have frequent flier miles. :D

Nice job Buckeye. The folks on this forum rock!

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

I'm just curious as to what a Gunsmith Costs these days. At $100 roughly for a 91/30 I can't imagine spending $50 on a bolt. :?:
Looking forward to seeing if this bolt swap fixes it. 8-) 8-) 8-)

I can't imagine a so called gunsmith that treats people that carry guns the way that the guys in the original post did. His days are numbered treating people like that before he gets ahold of the wrong guy.

No, no no, you don't understand. Just send it to me UPS, I will fix it, but you will never see it again, so you won't have to worry about it any more. (I would rather not do that kind of transaction in person) :D

That is awesome. I'm going to Orlando for a few days in 2 weeks and was actually contemplating bringing a dismantled bolt with me on the plane. Homeland security would probably frown on that idea.

I wanted to post a copy of a PM I sent to BuckeyeSgt as this is how I feel about all you guys and your help...

"Thanks Drew,

In a way its sad,

Local Gun forums, everyone is all Anti social and don't want to interact with everyone, We planned a range day and no one wanted to let other people shoot their guns I was really disappointed with how "stuck up" everyone was. It was all about "showing off the new AK or AR." No one really cares to help each other out. But here you are in TX offering me, a total strange, your tools and parts, That really speaks to me about this Mosin Nagant community as a hole. With all the issue with this gun I honestly thought about just selling it as a "parts gun." taking a loss but getting out of the situation and just going with a newer Rifle, but your single act of kindness has shown me that Maybe I should stick it out a little longer, there are good people out there willing to help. I LOVE to Learn so hopefully One day I can repay the favor. "

That applies to everyone who has offered me help, advice, and even just the "don't give up" lines. For a Noob like me, its a big deal to have a support group willing to help me figure out whats going on. VS just telling me "STFU noob."

As for the gunsmiths.... Being in the City like this ....98% of Gun owners are Hand gun owners. then 1% are AR and AK type guns, and then I'm in that slim 1% of people with Antique Guns, I don't really blame the Gunsmiths for Not knowing what they were doing... If I'm a VW tec and you bring me a Toyota I might know how to do the basics but when It comes to vehicle specific stuff I'd probably fail. Thats how I try to see this. If you cant tell I'm an Optimest at heart, so i try to see the good in everyone. And I hits me very hard when People are A#% holes for no reason. I can't say the Gun Smith was to blame 100% as I didn't think to do a detailed inspection of the gun both times. I took them at their words that it was fine and left. SO to that extent I've learned That I've gotta learn to do it on my own.

Anyways this is getting long and it was just supposed to be a thank you to everyone on here.....

so thanks.....

:toast:

P.S.

Chumleee if your coming to Orlando, you should come visit, I'm about 10 min for the airport. Would love to meet another MN person.

Jaime, your right. There are all kinds of forums out there and groups and whatever. This is the only place I feel at "home". No one bashes you for a question, notice i didn't say stupid cause there are no stupid questions. Just learning. I learn something on here everyday and I'm sure everyone else does too...well except Martin. :D
I met a guy once that just wanted to try out a M44 to see if he wanted one. I let him shoot it all he wanted. Then he asked if I wanted to shoot his M1 carbine. I had never shot one and loved it. So I see it as a good thing to help when I can. I trust almost all the people on here. And I just could stand to see a 38 go to waste. They are too hard to find. So anyways enjoy and :toast:

z31jaime wrote:I don't have another Mosin, this is my first one, also In the last few Min I've been checking my other packs of surplus ammo and found another 2 rounds that it will close on, so now I'm up to 4 that will work, 1 more and I've got a full clip... LOL

I've tried contacting some Mosin nagant owneres on some of my local gun forums, but they dont seem to receptive of a total stranger asking to use there bolt for 5 min....

Sorry I saw this post so late. I see one of the guys has already sent you a bolt and head guage to try.
I am less than 2 hours north of you in Orange Park. Being a new collector I only have 3 MN's (so far) but you are still welcome to drive up and try any of my bolts if you wanted to. If you want to come up on a weekend PM me. I will take you to a Jax gun club range where I have a membership and we could kill us some paper! Don't give up! These guns are too much fun to shoot!
