Do they have any Hex Mosins left?

I made an electronic bore cleaner from an old cell phone charger and a stainless steel rod that millman gave me.

Re: classicfirearms new batch not refurbished
I also purchased my first mosin in this sale, not sure if I was taken for a ride yet or not, although I kinda do.....
The stock is split twice in practically the same spot. The receiver, magazine and butt plate have matching serials, but I think that the bolt is made by Remington? see the album link below.
I haven't gotten to cleaning the barrel yet, the thing is just swimming in cosmoline.
Let me know your thoughts?
Thanks

I'm getting ready to clean up the cosmoline off of all the metal parts, and I just want to make sure: will mineral spirits damage the blue-ing on the receiver? I don't believe there is any paint on the metal parts so that should be fine, I'm just concerned about the finish.
As for the stock I've just been wiping it down with a clean rag a couple times a day and that seems to be working well.

Mineral spirits will not remove bluing. It works great to clean the grease off the stock too. Won't bother the wood finish. I use it all the time for these tasks. Try it on a small portion of the stock if you are concerned and then look at your rag. Good luck.

even better than mineral spririts is just boiling water. my SKS was packed hard in cosmoline. i just kept a refilling a pot of boiling water and kept pouring it over the parts in a pan. i just kept lifting the pan to rock the water back and forth and the cosmo floated to the surface. worked great.captsupercow wrote:I'm getting ready to clean up the cosmoline off of all the metal parts, and I just want to make sure: will mineral spirits damage the blue-ing on the receiver? Yes for the metal, I usually follow up with grease cutter and very hot water. Even after that as you clp the parts, you will get the remainder of the grease off on the rag... NEVER BOILING WATER on the stock thoughgopedxr7 wrote:even better than mineral spririts is just boiling water. my SKS was packed hard in cosmoline. i just kept a refilling a pot of boiling water and kept pouring it over the parts in a pan. i just kept lifting the pan to rock the water back and forth and the cosmo floated to the surface. worked great.captsupercow wrote:I'm getting ready to clean up the cosmoline off of all the metal parts, and I just want to make sure: will mineral spirits damage the blue-ing on the receiver? I've been looking for a '26 date 91/30 to buy or trade for. Hint hint.

Re: classicfirearms new batch not refurbished
So I have cleaned the bejesus out of the rifle, the bore being the most difficult part to clean. But the rifle feels and looks great and now I'm preparing it for shooting.
I checked the headspace with a field gauge and it passed with the bolt not closing on it. My next question is with gauging the firing pin: Using the protrusion gauge, with the firing pin at the indexed position, the tip of the pin clears the 95 mark; however it only just barely touches the 75 mark. I just want to make sure that won't be a problem.
Also I have 182 grain prvi ammunition, will it be too hard on the gun or should I have gotten the 150 grain instead?

If the gauge barely touches on 75 you are good to go. Too far out if it touches the 95. Usually, but not always, the score marks on the cocking piece will line up with the screw head and the firing pin end will be flush with the cocking piece.
Heavy ball is fine for the rifle. Some of the Mosins don't perform too well on a heavy ball diet. You should try each to see which one is more accurate for you.

SO! I've finally made it to the range and fired off a few rounds!
She shoots pretty darn well, even though it has a heck of a kick! I also attached a picture of some of the spent shells, let me know if you see anything unusual in the primer strikes.

I'm guessing you did not check the firing pin protrusion, the strikes look a little deep.

Re: classicfirearms new batch not refurbished
Normal enough, I suspect the headspace is a little sloppy. The rimmed rounds are very forgiving of less than optimal headspace, and the Mosin was not designed to be a precision instrument with perfect adherence to specs. Likely it will pass on a No/Go gauge, but only just, again very typical of this lot of 91/30's, your primer strikes are cratered, not the smooth indent of a well tuned US M1903 Springfield, or commercial sporter, this indicates to me that there is a tiny bit of movement going on between bolt face and case head when that round fires.

Re: classicfirearms new batch not refurbished
So here is what I did check prior to firing:
Firing pin gauge: using the gauge tool I made sure that the firing pin did not touch the '95' depth gauge. It did; however, just only graze the '75' mark. I was actually concerned that the firing pin would not penetrate enough. If you looked at previous posts Longcolt, I did do this check; However, the only headspace gauge that I used was a field gauge and it was not even remotely closing on it; therefore, I chose to go ahead and attempt to fire the rifle.
I do agree that the pin protrusion does look deeper than I'd prefer. What would you recommend to alleviate this problem? I have always kept the firing pin screw aligned with the 'score' mark on the bolt assembly. In order to pass the gauge markings I would absolutely have to deviate from those standard convetions? I'm asking of course from purely a safety standpoint and no other.
I definitely don't want the gun to explode in my face!!!!!

Re: classicfirearms new batch not refurbished
When using the firing pin gauge the pin must be long enough to be taller than the 75 but not touching the 95. The line on the back of the cocking knob may or may not align. Who is to really say if the marks are original to the bolt.

Re: classicfirearms new batch not refurbished
Almost three times what I paid for the last 91/30 I bought from Aim, nice return considering they bought these rifles around the same time they were selling me that 80 91/30. This is called good business, looking ahead to tomorrow's market and taking a gamble on what will be worth more in a few years.

The local store just got in a shipment of CIA marked hexes reconditioned in cosmoline. Mosins locally had be difficult to find. Perhaps the Mosin shortage is over?

Re: classicfirearms new batch not refurbished
Now that prices are higher some outfits are letting go of stock they have been sitting on for a few years or longer. I have not heard of the unpleasantness with Russia over Ukraine lessening, and I don't expect it will while the current administration is in power, that means no new imports from that part of the world.
