The originals barrel band retainers were pins not screws.

Interesting, this rifle has no stock markings at all?

Pinned bands still on this heavily used SA stamped NEW. But could this as-new example mean that not all of them were pinned?

This gun created a small stir on Gunboards, when the final auction price was revealed.

http://forums.gunboards.com/showthread. ... urved+logo

It was highly misunderstood, and I hope that I pointed out why it is so significant. It is far from a usual New England Westinghouse. It's one that should have been shipped to Russia, as the contract was still valid at the time of its manufacture. It is not a US Surcharged production, as most that are in that condition are seen. Instead, it is possibly of the most rare NEW offerings to own.

Worth every penny.
No words of wisdom come to mind at this time....

Very Very Nice Rifle

I have a friend back in England that has one of the Last Triumph Bonneville's ever made in Meriden ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triumph_Engineering ) And It has never been out of the Box , He opens the side of the Box and cleans It and sprays It with some rust stopper , The Tires are off and kept separate .

Very Strange I think , and I bet he is not the only one , Bike must be worth a fortune now :ani-pop:

What letter is on the top of the receiver tang near the lower action screw? It'll be a M, H, or E with an arrow to the left. That letter will tell which of the three main Westinghouse factories made it.
Thanks! Trying to nail down serial number ranges.

That is a amazing find. There is not a smiley worthy of that rifle. BTW I think my Mosin IQ went up 10 pints from reading all the comments.

That rifle is the Mosin Nagant equivalent of a Picaso or Rembrant

No, for the most part I was always attracted to the issued rifles as they had more storys to tell, for me it's always been about the history. Had I spotted something like this I would have been all over it faster than flies on shit, this falls into that category or super rare and rarely ever heard about much less seen. For all I know there could be five of them hidden away within a few miles of here, we just never know what is going to pop up unexpectedly.

I wish we all knew the story of how that rifle remained in that condition all these years. There has to be an interesting story there :vconfused:

Either chance, or design, probably chance as few if anybody in 1920 would have foreseen a time when these rifles would have any value.
