Having large amounts of ammo isn't about using it all at once to defend yourself. Defense is one use and hunting for food is another. It's also a comodity that will be worth as much or more than food, probably way more than gold, if it gets to the point where everything is gone from shelves and warehouses. I'm sure you'd be able to use it for trade faster than most anything else for things you might not have. It seems our government has achieved what alchemists failed to do in the middle ages and that's to transform lead in to gold.67mustang390 wrote:I am not really into the 20 year prep thing, but I do think great grandparents...or great great grand parents had it right....can enough food for 3 years and always been eating on the three year old canned stuff....replenishing it each year with the garden/livestock and you can make it through most anything. They were more worried about drought than the govt though. They also knew that if they were in trouble, their neighbors would help them...the govt didn't evn cross their mind cuz it wasn't their job. People are way too dependant on govt everything...even the govt is overwhelmed. People still haven't gotten help from the storm this Fall (of course it's not really covered much in the news). Anyway, I'll get off my soap box. I have AT least 1000 RNDS for all guns I own but don't have over 3k for any one gun. Have well over a year in food supply and am working on a year in $$ as back up for job loss or anything else. No I don't have cable and all that other stuff, have a car that is decent but 12 yrs old so I don't have huge payments and a modest house. I live within my means and that is peace of mind. 20,000 rnds isnt going to save you if shtf especially if you are in a city. I am looking to be sustainable as far as hunting and being able to process and support myself. If you can do that you don't need to go to the "super dome" for food and water. The only thing I don't have is a high capacity rifle like an AK. If I were to get one Id get an AK 74...anyone have one they want to sell? Ok, Good night allJunk Yard Dog wrote:This has become a self feeding frenzy, it's not the administrations threatened legislation driving it, now it's story's about empty gun shops and internet sellers with sold out signs . The gun shops are selling out of ammo, quick, lets get down there and grab us some, the zombies might wake up this weekend! For this reason I always keep on hand what I might need, and I have not bought a single round of ammo in over a month, since well before all the shit started. I also don't have to panic and rush the grocery store hours before a huge snowfall, why? Because I keep food in the house all the time, more than enough to see me through any temporary shortage. Some prepping is a good thing.

If lead is the new gold then I am glad about that extra 400 pounds I stashed away last year for my own use

Stopped by a LGS to look for some 30 Carbine. They had a couple of small boxes, but they wanted $52! I will pass on those.

A little over a buck a round before taxes for war baby ammo, nice, a stunt like that would be enough to terminate my business at that establishment.

I use their indoor range and maybe buy a cleaning brush or two a year. Stopped buying guns from them when I figured out how to look up the value of guns on the interweb thingy. A little over $30 for a brick of .22lr...Junk Yard Dog wrote:A little over a buck a round before taxes for war baby ammo, nice, a stunt like that would be enough to terminate my business at that establishment.
Good to see some ammo in stock, but that whole supply and demand thing works 2 ways... As far as I am concerned, they will be sitting on those boxes of $50 ammo long after I find a much better deal on Gun-Deals when the craziness settles down.

It's not a difficult round to reload either, nice straight wall cases.

My plans include some reloading in the relatively near future. Just working on a tax/revenue issue....

Some good points made above. As JYD says, some preparation is always in order. I buy ammo at my local Co-op farm store whenever it comes on sale. Shotgun ammo will come on at $5.77 or so, Federal 525's are on right now at $18.88 per brick. I bought another case the other day. I probably have 30,000-40,000 .22, maybe 1000+ 12 ga., and so on.
Canadian Tire was clearing out .32 Winchester Special a couple of years back, so I went to each store I was near and bought all they had at $7-$8 a box. I have thousands of rounds of milsurp ammo of various calibers. I find it difficult to fire off some of the nice old milsurp stuff, though.

GOOD RIDDANCE LGR!! If there isn't a gun range in heaven, then I'm going to hell.

Re: the ammo is gone
This is not much worse than it was when Obama won the first time. Couldn't by anything AR or AK and tthen the ammo started going up, then last the reloading material. Same exact thing.
Took about 6 to 10 months for it to start falling back down. It will happen again when people realize the sky is not falling.

My walmart had 7.62x39 this morning so I bought my "allowed" three boxes of it, wish it came in bigger boxes than 20 rounds though! The guy working is one I shoot the breeze with and he informed me that the local sporting goods store got a pallet of .22LR in last Monday, his wife works there and got him two bricks, I'll stop in there tomorrow but it's doubtful that they still have any, once the word gets out the buzzards bring in all their friends and snap it up.
Re: the ammo is gone
I watched a CCI video sometime back that said they produce 4 million rounds of .22 a DAY...their website says that they are currently running 7 days a week and making MULTIPLE DAILY shipments...but to WHERE would be my question.

Re: the ammo is gone
Everybody shoots .22, they ship not only to the entire country, but the rest of the world also. four million sounds like a lot, but not if say 20 million people a day buy a box, or a brick, goes quick at that rate.
