Re: New Members, Make your first post here!
Just got my first Mosin Nagant, and spent most of the night doing what any excited gun owner would do (watched youtube videos on disassembly for cleaning, checking pedigree by markings, etc.)
Can anyone direct me to a good reference on barrel erosion? It looks like the outside of the barrel on the bottom there's some rust/erosion. I've tried to look down the barrel using my phone's flashlight but couldn't find/see anything (might be an amateur mistake).
Is this acceptable? Do I need to have it professionally inspected? I know it's a 72-73 year old rifle, but want to be safe before shooting it.
Thanks for the forum, hope to learn a lot about my Mosin from experts!

Welcome to the board, rust like that is normal, under the woodline is an area that doesn't get much maintenance over the decades or century's that milsurps can sit. Pour some oil on it and scrub the spot with your copper/bronze bore brush, it will pull the rust up out of the pits. When the oil stops turning orange your done.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Sneak is just a late production rifle they didn't bother to stamp a date on, they were not secretly making rifles. Just about any M39 will should do it, most of them are good shooters.Browntailguy wrote:Greetings everyone. New member. C&R License holder and rifle enthusiast from Louisville, Kentucky. About to make my SECOND C&R purchase. Already own an M1 garand. Looking at the M39 but not sure which option to go with. This will be a range gun as I am not much of a collector yet. Was thinking about a sneak version but the B barrel or Sako versions appeal to me. I'm a huge Sako fan. Glad to be onboard. If anyone has a recommendation as to what M39 to buy I'd be very appreciative. Happy New Year to all.

Re: New Members, Make your first post here!
Hi there new member from Canada, I,ve just purchased a 91/30 and look forward to learning more about them.
I have a couple sks s , a Tula 1954r all matching and a Chinese "D". Although I used to shoot the Chinese one quite a bit 10 years ago, I no longer do as most of my range work is pistol nowadays . I like to just clean them annually and look at them.
Obviously I'm going to have to shoot the 91/30 since I've never fired one before. And from there decide on what's next for me. Prices of sks ands mosins seem to be climbing which is the downside. But everything costs more nowadays.
Thanks for having me!

Howdy y'all..
Relatively new to Mosin collecting. The only two I have 38 and 91 have been "fun guns" that I acquired maybe 10 years ago....cheap to shoot and a ton of fun...Both are arsenal refurbed and I don't see any rareness with either...Non the less, me, son in law, grandson etc shoot the heck out of them...
I have a question about something I found while scrubbing the M38 barrel today I will post on the proper thread...

Thanks for accepting me on your forum. Not exactly my first post, but figured Id give a little more background on myself. So here goes.
I collect guns! No specialty but if I see it and it talks to me, I get it..All are shooters. Arsenal and quality refurbs are fine with me. 2 Moisins, a M91 and M38... 2 Springfield Garands that are WWII era, but brought back to mint by Springfield a long time ago...a mint 1903A4 I got from Buffalo Arms with Gibbs barrel that is a MOA rifle with milsurp ball ammo! A 30-40 Bannerman Krag carbine...several trapdoor 45-70's original and Italian mix...a few Sharps, all Italian..1895 Winchester .35WCF that is mechanically mint, but been reblued...yada, yada yada. The list goes on and on...They all shoot and I reload for each of them.
My best bud is totally different type of collector..He is a purist through and through...I do admire him as he shoots them all! A large number of WWi & II rifles from all different nations...They have to be correct down to the smallest screw or he will search until he finds an authentic replacement...He has no Nagants! Last gunshow he mentioned that he needs to start collecting some...Need to get him started.
Nuff said for now. Need to figure out how to upload some pics...

Hi there,
My nameis Herbert, im from Romania and i purchased a russian scope a few days earlyer. Im pretty sure its from a mosin nagant rifle, i just dont know if its a PE or PEM(myresearch pointed to these, mainly PE), as i couldnt find any markings on it.
So, attached a foto, maybe som of you guys can clear me out. Thanks!
@admin: sorry I didn't read the rules first...!

Hello, I'm new to the board.
I'm a C&R holder and love historic battle rifles.
Currently own a 91/30, and Type 53 Mosin, Type 56 SKS, M1 Carbine, and a Enfield No4, Mk 1.
My Type 53 mosin was a bargain $99 from SOG a few months back, split stock nailed back together. I'm attempting to restore the stock now.
Have question about using Russian/Finnish screw type barrel bands, posted in general forum.
Good to be here, thanks.

1932 Izhevsk Dragoon. Last year these rifles were made. Very nice first mosin. These aren't very common.sir_nicholas_vii wrote:I recently purchased my first Mosin Nagant and I am struggling to find out what type it is! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
