:) Following this thread, I would like to add, I never used stripper clips to load a bolt action rifle and I dont believe I will for my mosin nagants. I do understand the historical relationship though. :pop:

I don't care for the repro's; but I picked up 40 of the Izhevsk chargers from 1946 and 1947 that have been floating around lately, and I really like them.

I love charger fed guns. It bugs the hell out of me watching people load round by round when the rifle was designed to be quickly loaded via clips. Youtube is littered with videos of people spending most of their time loading round by round at a buck a piece you can't loose. I am just as fast if not faster clip feeding the SKS and Enfield as those with ARs and AKs. I find it comical with the amount of shooters that fumble with AK mags, they seldom get it right and I can't help but to LOL when they manage to get the mag stuck :chuckles:

I am gonna have to agree with the pointless waste of time money and well more pointless. If i was to spend money on an item like this it would be more ammo. Not sure if i said pointless and waste yet. I kind of understand ..a little, about scoping but i have way more fun with out it. There is not much reason i can see to scope one unless it is for hunting. I like the classic look of a 91/30 and the others are even better so why? The history is fun to me also. I know call me a crazy old guy. :grumpy: :grumpy: :grumpy: :oji:

What drive me crazy is

people who think it is easier to load a stripper clip and then fight with it into the rifle instead of loading one round at a time into the magazine until all the rounds are loaded then fire.

The stripper clip was designed to load faster so the "work and time" could be done partly in the back lines and not on the firing line.

Now, if you are under attack at the "rifle range" and find a need to rapid fire, I guess a stripper clip will pay off. But there is no difference in loading a stripper clip and then loading it in to the rifle as loading one at a time into the mag until it is filled.

When I take my rifle to the range, I'm trying to see how accurately I can fire the rifle....not how fast. Fast is a waste of ammo. In fact, if you rapid fire too fast at olur range, they will ask you to leave.

For me.......time is not my enemy........my eyes are! :chuckles:

Kill two birds with one stone....buy the ammo sold with the chargers.

I load my chargers in my living room while I'm watching TV, not at the range. It's probably more just an excuse to play with them more than anything else for me.

I have wondered why they stopped at 5 rounds when they designed the gun. Seems like 8 or 10 would have been a better design for battle. I can shoot 5 rounds and reload several times before the paper targets can hit me! I would not want one of those on my rifle. Now, a 30 round mag in an AR can be fun every once in a while. :D

As some of you have seen of my "naked" MN, I would love to have some stripper clips to sit here and load and unload, and load, and load while im watching tv. In regards to extended magazines though they are kind of pointless, especially a for a MN. Semi auto's, fine, MN's, no. Bolt action rifles in general, no. But while I'm typing this I did manage to find the video of my 10/22 with the BMF activator. It was pretty fun, but this is a MN forum so we just wont talk about semis.

you've never been attacked by the elusive and aggressive steel gongs? they move fast, hit you hard and fad away into brush and keep you contained by repetition. The Fins call it motti and the gongs utilize it very well. I was once surrounded by targets for 15 days, thankfully JYD supplied me with black pepper Spam earlier that month. :D

on a more serious and truthful note, I practice both marksmanship and snap shooting. yes, I am one of the weirdos who think SHTF is more probable than not. so I train diversely. don't get me wrong, I have no desire to go out full blown Rambo style. I think evading for survival is more important so If I am not in a position to defend from good cover taking well aimed shots, I like to think taking a few quick somewhat accurate shots to keep their heads down so I can get the hell out of the area is best.

I am very impatient at times so watching YT videos or waiting for the other shooter to load shell by shell so I can check my target just gets to me.

I believe you need to invest in a private range then. :spam2:

would be nice. I have always wanted to make mock scenarios to test rifles and ammo and to further training. like build foxholes and trenches with specific position of things such as having a nazi dummy in a firing position and trying to get vital hits and various other "battlefield" challenges. I would love to have my own range

It would be far better to learn to use the stripper clips and use the rifle as it was designed. Modifications, even temporary ones, send the message, to others, that it is OK to change the rifle.
I couldn't have said it better. This was my first thought when I saw this. My second was "why?". With all the threads asking how to scope these and float barrels then this. I guess it's human nature to "improve" things but it goes against the whole point of collecting historic firearms. Yeah I know it's not permanent but it goes right to the line of doing just that. The more these firearms are altered, permanent or not, the further we get from their history. Besides running ten rounds through these at a clip tends to get them very hot and though it may have been ok on the battle field where the rifle could be handed over for refurbishment it's not the best thing for the rifle now.

This has actually been a entertaining thread. Simo, you know what I appreciate about you? It's the fact that you bring up your points, and although mostly opposed, you remain civil and respectful. You point out that there is no permanent modification to the gun or any original parts. Well that is important on a preservation forum. We hold preservation near to our heart. I can see how this mod might be interesting to someone, mostly the younger guys. I don't like anything about it myself, but that's me. I don't like the look of it, the fact that it only serves the purpose for rapid fire "hot doggin" and promotes overheating of the barrel. And when I am shooting from the bench I don't need that mag interfering with the bench. I have a Hakim semi auto 8mm and it is equipped with a 10 rd mag. There is a procedure for converting German MG13 machine gun mags into 30 round Hakim mags. On a straight stocked rifle I think long banana mags look terrible, so that does not appeal to me even for the Hakim. The assault weapon appearance of the AK and AR style rifles are the only firearms that look right to me with long Mags, except maybe for my Ruger 10/22 with the new BX25 25 rd Ruger mag.
