Numbers on the outside of the butt plate are for the most part considered a rack number for storage purposes to make inventory easier I guess. I have never seen it repeated on the under side but then like Weldon I don't remember ever taking that butt plate off because the rifle was so clean to begin with. I have heard many references to slings as being for an M44 and the only one I knowingly have is almost too short to be used on an 91/30 and came with a Polish M44. It also has an almost nylon feel to it if I remember right. Or was that the Hungarian one? Crap I don't collect accoutraments for this very reason and when I get a question I contact WVChuck for he is the Accoutrament King as far as I am concerned. He proclaims to have the right one for all his weapons of everything that is needed to maintain that particular weapon. I just collect the weapons and if the right thing happens to be on it I guess I am getting lucky huh? Bill :o

To he original poster. Since we've completely taken over your thread with our quest for the truth about slings, I pulled my Polish 1952 M44 back down and removed the butt plate and mine has no stampings or markings of kind under the butt plate.

There are pics of the dog collars in previous post of mine. I'll try to get a pic of the sling curled into an s. Sorry for taking over the thread to the original poster but to add to the numbers under the plate mine doesnt have anything under it.

Yeah I saw them but with them all together I mean the collars on the sling as if they're all on the rifle minus the rifle makes it easier to judge. Pictures of everything seperate are not the same.
