I notice that too. You don't feel it with a 91/30, but when you fire a carbine you definitely can feel the shock wave

My friends coming back from Afgan. say the .50 cal sniper rifle is the one for shoulder burger and blast shock wave. Nothing like hitting your target at a thousand yards and watch it explode. JGC

My m44 would really tear up your shoulder especially the one time you hold it to our shoulder wrong. No longer own the m44 due to the fact that it could not hit the broad side of a barn, yay Russian war time quality :D, well then again if the neck of the bullet fits down the barrel...then the m in m44 means musket

Or that it was counterbored. You may not have even been hitting the rifling. I have a Polish M44 that has a sewer pipe barrel but still hits in about 4 inch patterns at about 100yds. Man that makes me sick to my stomach everytime I think about this poor rifles barrel. Oh well It's still a beautiful rifle. Just not as accurate as others.

This m44 had trouble hitting a 4x3ft target at 50yards....I can get some pretty good groups out of my current 43 Tula and AR so I dont believe it was shooter error

Well this one's not consistant, part the shooter and part the rifle, but it also splits case necks so it's a wallhanger now. I don't feel comfortable shooting it anymore. Besides I have enough other safer rifles to keep me busy. It sure looks good on the wall though. Especially with the Russian M44s below it. Now those are shooters. I really love the carbines. Wish there were more of them around.

My M44 and Two T53"s are not as accurate as my m91-30's but I like the attention I get at the range when I shake up the crowd. Really good crowd pleasers when everyone has .223 or .22's and it gets dark outside. 4th of July type fun.JGC :D

I find that my 91/30 packs more of a punch in the shoulder with 148gr Monarch than my M44 with 200gr Wolf!!!!

My 91/30s are definitely more accurate than my M44, especially my '26 Izhevsk with a pristine bore.

However, to be quite honest, I've fired maybe 200-300 shots from my M44, and have probably only aimed maybe 20 of those shots?

It's a '44 with a worn bore, so I don't expect much but I enjoy thinking the rifle has seen a ton of history in its time, do I enjoy blasting away.

If I want to start shooting the centers out of dimes at 100 yards, I use my AR-15. And I've done it too!

Sounds like it was counterbored & had a blemish on the recessed crown causing it to throw fliers. How was the bore on it?

You guys say these things buck, my 91/30 was just a push. It wasn't that bad at all, then again it may be my youth- strong young bones.

A lot of that kick can be eliminated with practice. I'm over 65 and can shoot a MN easily without any real problem all day long . Just don't get in a hurry. I used to shoot my M14 on auto the same way when I was young. No big deal. A 3"" Mag. shotgun can kick harder with special loads. Thanks JGC

Yeah I was just thinking this. I've told this one before but I restored a Stevens Savage 311 12ga double barrel that was damaged very badly in a flooded basement. When I finished I had replaced the hammerset, firing pins and springs, stock and reblued the whole gun. Then went out to "test it out. Shot a few single rounds and decided to let both barrels rip. Well I was only using 2.75" #8 target loads so they won't kick to bad right. I mean I've shot this thing with both barrels and 3" magnum shells. This can't be anything like that. Wrong!! It almost ripped the gun from my hands and I thought I'd broken a few fingers. Now THAT kicks like a mule. I won't be doing that again. The only other time I did this with this gun was over 25 years ago and it just about knocked me off the chair I was sitting on. Oh and yes I had a bruise both times. A big one. Youch!!

Here's the culprit.

That's a Louisiana Rice Field Goose gun. The old timers in La. paddle out into middle of the rice field, wait until dawn when the big ones fly over and try to reach up with those long 12 or 10 ga. cannons.I have seen some with 48"single muzzle loaders with fulll choke able to hit at well over a hundred yards. Nice Gun a real beauty to see all the hard work you must have put in on that one if it was in a flooded basement. Thanks JGC
