It might make an interesting restoration although it would probably be cheaper to get another No1 MkIII and salvage this one for Parts.
I gonna keep it and if it checks out OK I will definately shoot it. Restoring it depends on if it is practical to do so. I don't know how the muzzle brake was attached yet. Any ideas on that?

Is the barrel ruined by the addition of the flash hider?

I think he just means as far as re doing it. The flash hider won't hurt it for shooting. I am not sure how those are attached if they are threaded or just pinned or it could be on with a set screw. :D

It appears the barrel was threaded and the flash hider is screwed on. It has flat spots near the end of the flash hider where a 1/2 inch wrench will fit. No pins or set screws are visible. The bore actually cleaned up OK. Boy it was filthy! The bolt on the other hand has some pretty rough pitting on the top but the bolthead appears servicable. I'm going to have it checked out. There is a gun show this weekend so I will be on the look-out for parts.

Good luck at the show. :D I think Century has DP no.1 enfields for sale if you need the stock and other parts. Can't remember the price but it wasn't cheap. :D

Once metal is removed or altered then it can never be returned to original. To thread that barrel they had to remove the bayonet lugs, on a No4 they are on the last inch of the barrel. Or worse, they just cut the last inch of barrel off as they did on one of the Bubba Enfields I bought many years ago. I put the wood back on the rifle, and it looks like any No4 except for the missing barrel inch, the muzzle is almost flush with the band now, and it has fooled people who think like the No1 rifle, it's supposed to be that way.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I do appreciate the comments and advice from you guys. I'm learning, very slowly but it eventually sinks in.
