We use Lubriplate on the guide plate of our crusher, and the sliding forks on my forklift. Works great for that application at it is thick enough to stay in place, and resists weathering well. I did use some on a few parts guns I had packed away many years ago. It preserved them very well, however it made the most terrific mess when it was time to take it off. Black smears all over the bench, my clothing and person, pretty much everything the parts even slightly touched was a mess. Never again, from that point out Lubriplate is reserved for industrial use only, and I switched to modern spray on cosmoline.HistoryCollector99 wrote:Personally I always use lubirplate grease on all my firearms, vintage to modern. As a matter of fact my father had his Weatherby and a Swedish Mauser coated in the grease for about 16 years in an storage area without any kind of dehumidifier bulb or device and they still in the same condition as when he stored them. I always put it on everything I can manage to, the bolt pieces and all the metal areas.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
