The parking lot of a gun shop or gun-friendly sporting goods store during business hours is my go-to location for an FTF deal. The larger the better, like Dick's or Gander Mountain. Even after dark if they're open the lot will be very well lit. Its a busy public place and a couple guys handling guns outside won't be a shock to anyone. It protects both parties involved. I try to avoid FTF deals altogether, but I'm guilty of having one or two moments of weakness over a couple killer deals and this is my primary tactic for security. That, and a buddy riding shotgun. Just a little food for thought from the new guy.
I grew up in FL and I didn't realize FTF handgun sales were even legal there. They were made illegal in NC, where I moved, to a couple/few years ago.

Totally agree, usually do anything with guns in the parking lot of my local Cabelas, Sportsmans Warehouse or Scheels....never even get a second look there.

Welcome aboard the forums!M60A1TC7478 wrote:Grew up in AZ, moved to CA in 2000. Like stepping into another world where rights are few (and dwindling) and gun laws vary from city to city, county to county. Even moving Airsoft or Pellet guns in public view can get you a visit from the local PD where scared citizens call in who just might have reckless eye-balls seeing you putting them uncased in your trunk. It's a stretch, but have been told by various PD Officers that exposing real or replica weapons to public view (whether accidental or intentional) AND it causes fear from ANY citizen, you most likely will have your weapons confiscated and you charged with 'brandishing' ! A few thousand dollars later in legal fees and a judge with common sense should get you everything back! I say 'should'. Different world here in the OC in Southern Cal, worse in LA. Plans being made to relocate to northern AZ. Counting the days! This state is lost in more ways than one and it will be one of the bloodiest when the poo hits the fan ... because the only ones with weapons capable of any kind of defense from the roaming bands of 'have nots' are the criminal element.
When moving from AZ, I had to liquidate some legal Class 3 subs and a few SKSs. Broke my heart, but my career took me to Kalivornia, ... and it is so true: You are guilty until YOU prove yourself innocent. I'll never take gun rights for granted - EVER again. Apologies for the long read.

We are always fighting a battle to gain our 2nd Amendment rights back in California. Ever since the liberals moved into this state and took it over, (years ago now) it has been one fight after another. Especially with a liberal Governors.
Not sure why you had to "had to liquidate" a few SKS's. I own several, and I think the only one that is a problem here is the one with the grenade launcher on it. They make a "replacement dummy" end for that SKS that looks like the launcher and is legal to have on it.
As far as "brandishing firearms" is concerned......that would depend on your city and officers. If you are pointing it or screwing around with it, you could get a warning if someone turns you in, but putting your firearm into a case in the trunk is covered by the California laws under going to and from a range or shooting area or hunting. They can't touch you (unless you let them). The police can do what they want, but that doesn't mean they are right and can't be sued for false arrest and confiscating a legal firearm. If you don't do anything about it....you loose. If you do get a lawyer, you will win and they loose. Frankly, in my area, the Police understand and are very understanding and pro gun. But I'm not is a "big city" where they are getting shot at all the time either.

I bought the rifle anyway and paid $350.00. I also got 600 rounds of Tula, a bunch of accessories and a .22 derringer that I would't have given $10.00 for. The ammo made it a fair deal. The rifle is all matching and in beautiful condition. I believe it to be a fairly early Chinese rifle, but I haven't studied these. I haven't had an SKS since I bought and quickly traded one in the late 1990s, and I have had the itch for one again.
Steve, is this a short carbine? If so, the Chinese took some regular SKS rifles and cut them down to carbine length (maybe Russian ones if they had them left over?). They also made a few from scratch. Not really the government, but Norinco (same thing I guess
I have a short one called a paratrooper. Not really military, just a shortened SKS made by Norinco for the US. I'm far from a SKS expert, so I may be wrong, but yours looks "shorter"??????
Examples: My SKS Paratrooper

PS: Never mind, I think your is a standard length SKS, not a carbine.
