I was reminded of something after I made my last post on here. I bid on an M39 on gunbroker recently that had very strong tiger stripes much like this one. After much deliberation, I bid all the way up to $700.00. Turns out it was a waste of time deliberating. The bids went to $800 something, and still didn't meet the reserve.
I think you have a real treasure there.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I noticed that there is a 2 stamped into the stock. I have one too and it is on a VKT 1941 dated with the serial 415xx and is unmatched with a 3454 on the bolt. The stock is SAKO marked and a crossed cannon marking with OS in it. I introduced it many years ago and the consensus then was it was a straight stock used as a later replacement for a broken stock. With the rifle being non-Finn matched I would just guess the rifle had been back and remade by I hope the Finns. It came to me bathed in grease and filth and pine needles too which tends to support the work was done by the Finns at sometime. Could this too be indeed a replacement stock that was originally turned down for use the first time through and later used as a replacement?
I agree heartily that there indeed must have been more than originally thought of the straight stocks but I sure believe how they were used can be discussed forever. This turbulent time I would say it is fair to say nothing can be written in stone. I will also say what happened to the straight stocks after they came to this country can be questioned rightly or wrongly I really don't care how you feel about it the question is open for thoughts. History no matter where you look at it is open for questions and in this time period there can be many. Bill
