Thread for Matching Bayonets to Rifles (Sticky)
Re: Thread for Matching Bayonets to Rifles (Sticky)
It is pretty sad and surprising the lack of participation in this thread considering the amount of active users on this site. Especially with such an "original condition type goal here. If have to think that at least one person could benefit from it and everyones effort would be worth that one bayonet going home.

I think the idea is great but what happens is we have 25 pages of posts or 50? I believe that the first post needs to be edited with ALL the numbers listed in a basic order so that people would have a quick check list to look up. May need two columns with the ones Needed and the ones people Have. It would take some work to update the list every now and again. If one matches then that person would have to look through all the posts to find the owner of the bayonet and contact them. Just a thought!

Re: Thread for Matching Bayonets to Rifles (Sticky)
Have a bayonet with #6171, it is also marked No. 2 above the retaining pin for the release. The issue I have is that the bayonet does not fit all the way down the barrel. It will drop down all but 1/4 inch of clearing the muzzle. The outer end of the bayonet is smaller than the diameter of the rifle barrel (found this out by turning the bayonet backwards to check the fit on the barrel). The bayonet look new, as if it was never issued, so I am wondering if it was for a variant of the M91/30 or if it was just made out of specs.

Re: Thread for Matching Bayonets to Rifles (Sticky)
After looking at this and other sites, it seemed to me that it would be useful to have a uniform, searchable database for the bayonets. So I built this: http://mosinbayonet.site40.net/
Does this seem like a good idea? Any improvements that you think should be made?

I'd think having something similar to an open google doc so people could input their own info would be a good idea... Would cut down on a lot of work on your end, I'd imagine. Just would need to make sure there's a backup saved in case a troll decided to have a field day and wreck the whole thing.DyingBreed wrote:After looking at this and other sites, it seemed to me that it would be useful to have a uniform, searchable database for the bayonets. Re: Thread for Matching Bayonets to Rifles (Sticky)
The open Google doc, would be a snap. I do have a bit of paranoia about allowing completely open access to not only edit capability of the list, but also the list of emails, which is why the true emails are in the database but hidden from the page. If things get out of control, I may have to go that route....however I'd just prefer to split the admin privilege/responsibility with a few reputable members.4095fanatic wrote:I'd think having something similar to an open google doc so people could input their own info would be a good idea... I'm trying to figure how to build a form into the site that allows people to submit info to the database without giving them full access to the database and its contents.
Thanks for the tips! Very helpful.
