Thanks, the stock came with the shotgun when I bought it. I fell in love with it on the gun shop wall and had to have it. I've had it a little while now. And now that we have been using it for clays I have an excuse to get it out more often :)
My wife has an 870 20 gauge with the same laminate stock, it looks really good.

I'll be shooting skeet tomorrow evening, it'll be in the high 20s and windy, perfect practice for the winter league I shoot in during February and March. :D

 nice! Where did you get the 20ga with the same stock? If you don't mind me asking.

Cabela's, it's the 870 Express, she had the choice of black plastic or laminate wood, she choose the laminate.

The forecast has been adjusted down, it'll be in the teens tonight!

Ick. I hate the cold lol. I believe mine came from academy sports store although I bought it used from a local store. Academy is the only place locally I've seen then for sale in this configuration.

I was using a Remington 870 Express 12 gauge with a 28" barrel. I still have the receiver but sold off everything else and converted it into a tacticool gun for my wife. Don't feel too sorry for me, I have 3 other 870s! :) My favorite shotgun.

The 870 is my favorite pump action as well I have two at the moment. This one and an old wingmaster I put a shorter barrel on and a mag extension. Nothing permanent though. I couldn't bare to chop up a nice old shotgun. The action is smooth as glass haha.

I have to go against the grain here, my wife's 870 is nice, but I wouldn't trade my Browning BPS, pictured above, for anything. :D I had to replace the action arms on it last year because I broke them through over use, if you want to try a smooth pump, lets all meet up so you can try my BPS.

Never have handled a bps. Would be interesting to see the differences. I've played around with some Mossbergs in the stores and liked them too. Just not really what I would call smooth. Still want a 590a1 though  . And I love my double. Only two shots but fun as all getout :D

The BPS and the 870 handle pretty much the same, the 870 does feel a teeny bit lighter though, length of pull and comb height are about the same. My BPS is like a Rolls compared to a 870 which would be like a BMW. A Mossberg could probably be compared to a Lada, they just feel really rough compared to what I am used to. Although I do realize just how tough they are. They are a no nonsense, unbreakable machine and I have considered buying one as a dedicated home defense gun many times.

The big difference I find is the location of the slide release, The BPS is behind the trigger, the 870 is in front, the BPS release does feel nicer than the 870 too.

Yeah that has been my only complaint with the 870. The controls aren't placed in the greatest of places. But after using them for a while now they just feel natural to me. But that is just from use.

With the BPS, as you wrap your fingers around the stock, your middle finger hits the slide release as your forefinger starts curling around the trigger - release, rack, fire - you learn the controls intimately when you shoot skeet doubles.

And a serious aside, if you intend to rely on a shotgun for home defense, take up trap or skeet and use your home defense shotgun, you will become completely familiar with that gun and will be able to use it without thinking. I took down a running deer at 30 yards at the beginning of this year with slugs in my BPS, I saw it running and just shouldered the gun and fired, aiming was not necessary, I knew where it was pointing.

That was my first deer ever on the evening of my first day hunting.

Nice! I have been using my hd shotguns alot here recently. It has helped me become more familiar with them for sure. And shooting moving clays is sure to help even more. Both my pump shotguns are 870's so the controls are exactly the same. Only barrel length, choke, and mag capacity is different. I'm still learning to shoot the clays out of instinct. Not aiming but pointing letting my instincts do the work. It takes practice for sure. And trusting yourself lol. I'm so used to aimed rifle and pistol shooting. This the first time I have used a shotgun enough to work on the skills.
