Matching numbers and US rifle should not be used in the same sentence. US rifles have one serial number, on the receiver, that multiple numbers thing is a European obsession that ends the moment the rifle is returned to these shores. Never mind what they EP'd on the bolt, that rifle is fully matching .
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

I purchased a Smith Corona w/ a shot out barrel and a stock that looked like it had been used to roast marsh mellows w/ over 20 years ago.

A very dear friend took my new unused RA '44 barrel that I had purchased w/ the rifle and he rebarreled it, and also fixed problems w/ the rear sight since was loose and then I purchased a CMP stock.

Paid $150 for the rifle and barrel, w/ new stock total investment $299.00

Why CMP stock because I didn't want any future purchaser to think that it was original or a arsenal rebuild.

Having no import marks I felt that it was a VFW or AFW return and sold thru DSM/CMP and received as in that condition for probably allot less 150 + the barrel.

No, it doesn't compare to the '03-A1's from the 20-30's that went to War in WWII, and 2 of them in Greek Service in the late 40's where there is no bluing left on some parts.

They are Vet's that will remain in the same condition as I received them

The milling and machining versus stamped parts means allot to me personally.

Well, I swapped the sporter stock out last night. I had to take the front sight blade off to get the handguard retaining band on, and I have a replacement front sight blade on the way from Numrich to freshen that up. The handguard and stock I ordered from Numrich match pretty decent now, and I'm sure as time goes on will match a little better with a little bit of sweat and powder smoke mixed with oil. Got lucky and received a Remington stock to boot! The handguard is NOS USGI, so I did have to do a little sanding for fitment. As someone noted above, it is a milled trigger guard.

Well, here she is with a new pair of shoes... One of these days I'll post some pictures of her with her sister that is buried in the back of the safe...

Very Nice. An 03A3 is on my short list.
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!
