Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Hi all from central Illinois. I am quite new to mililitary weaponry and expect delivery of my first Mosin Nagant 91/30 the first of next week. Been reading alot of posts here and learning something new each time. Glad to be here and hope to be able to chime in some without sounding too stupid.

How do I remove the cleaning rod on a 91-30 from its storage position under the barrel?

Welcome to the board, the rod is screwed in, it unscrews just like any screw. Look at the tip of the rod, see that small hole? You should have a tool kit that came with the rifle, in it is a short rod that will fit in that hole. Stick it on and use it for some leverage to twist the rod loose. If you didn't get a tool kit with the rifle just find a small screwdriver to fit in the hole and use that. I take it that you have limited experiance with military surplus firearms? On the board index page you will find a link to the information section, there you will find instructions on how to take your rifle apart, and clean it.ronwhj wrote:How do I remove the cleaning rod on a 91-30 from its storage position under the barrel?

Hey Guys
I got my first Mosin a week ago, a 1939 Tula 91-30. The previous owner had put on an AMI synthetic stock, and bipod
. Luckily he still had the original wood stock which I replaced immediately. Luckily no other mods were done to the rifle so she is back in her glory All the numbers match on the gun and it looks and fires well. I have found so much useful information on this board already and am excited to learn more. I'll post up a thread with pictures soon.

Hey guys, I'm Steve and obviously new to the forum, though I've been lurking around here for the past year or so. So far, I've picked up an M1944 and an M1938, both numbers matching. Stripped and thoroughly cleaned both rifles prior to re-assembly and head-spacing (both were good). Have only fired the M44 at this point but will get around to taking the M38 out soon.

Hey guys! I'm Hassaan and I got my first Mosin, a 1942 Ishevsk 91/30, yesterday. I cleaned it today and can't wait to go shooting next weekend.
I had a question for the experts here: Can you help me identify if my Mosin is DDR marked or not? The placement and size of the "triangle 1" stamp seems unusual to me.

Hello Hassan, welcome to the board. There seemed to be no one set place for the East Germans to stamp that triangle 1 on the barrel shank. It could be in any area that was not covered by Soviet markings, and is sometimes lightly struck, it's not always a 1 of course, sometimes it's a 2 .Randomite wrote:Hey guys!
