It's certainly one of them, for sure. I saved and saved for just that one. I almost put an EOTech on it, but really, really wanted this one...the one with RCO reticle. This is mine without the killflash. The killflash is only $40.

I suppose this one would actually be the Holy Grail, but it doesn't have a chevron for the reticle pattern, just crosshairs. The red dot would be a nice close combat feature, though.

That's an impressive AR Drago :)

Thanks for the photos and the information. I have a good idea what I want to do now. I decided to go ahead and send the barrel in to be threaded. I am going to wait a couple of weeks in case I get a chance to shoot it again lol. I want to make sure I get it there and back before it starts to warm up though.

Thanks again for all your help and information!

Thanks MN. I got a big old smile when I saw your targets. Made my day.
Sorry about that wreck Drago, if I was closer I'd help you get it into an auction up there, but Portland is the closest I could do. Them damn Hondas usually do well like JYD was saying.

JYD, do you go to any of the auto auctions?

No, we stay away from the auctions, it's hard to keep up with the big buyers from the Mid East , Russia, and the City who seem to all have money falling out of their asses. We buy from local sources, garages, body shops, that sort of thing.

My December count is:

5) Mosin 91/30s
1) Mossberg 12 ga.
5) Rimfire rifles

My January count is:

1) AR15
1) SKS (that I still need to go pick up!)

The sad part is I've already spent more in January than I did in December!

Tomorrow I go look at that pawn shop M44. I am hoping that it fits in the budget :)

See, the disease is spreading fast  Let us know what happens in the pawn shop, we have none around here.

I'll post back on what I find, but I am a bit concerned. This is the rifle I mentioned that I watched the pawn shop buy off of Customer. He also had a K98 Mauser and they gave him $800 for the pair. I was only able to get a glance from a few feet away, so I'm not sure what was going on. I know the guys behind the counter only know "Mosin", "Mauser", "Enfield", etc. They don't care and they aren't going to look up the collector value no matter how hard you try to explain a rare rifle. They'll buy anything, but they will buy it cheap and sell it cheap. For the life of me, I can't figure out how the guy talked them out of $800.

As much as I am interested in the M44, I am just as interested to see what they are, how much they're asking, etc. There's a story here somewhere and its been bugging me not knowing!

Maybe the guy was a used car salesman with 30 years at the top of his game, someone like that could sell ice to Eskimos . Look for SS runes on that Mauser, the most faked marking in history that people still fall for

I am interested too as i have seen the store here buy them but they always say the mausers (german) are worth $300 no mater what it is. and then they give them like $200 or less. There is no talk of rarity on any guns i have seen them buy. I try to be there too when they are dealin so i can snipe from them. :D

I was at my local pawn shop some time back and a guy brings in a Yugo SKS that had a plastic dragunov stock on it, missing the bayo (typical bubba). The pawn shop offered him $125 and the guy took it. Just as a shooter, the Yugo was worth at least $200 on the low end. Makes me feel better next time I think I am "lowballing" them, to know that they probably don't buy anything they can't make at least 40% or better on.

Well, today was a shopping "bust". I went to the gun show up the road and though there were some impressive firearms and friendly dealers, nothing really caught my attention. There were 70 tables and mostly guns. About a good third were handguns. Mostl of the long guns were 60's and 70's commercial firearms...all great pieces, just not what I am after. I did see a little Carcano with bayonet that I picked up a couple of times. I finally walked out, leaving it on the table. I did find a 50's Russian made .22 match grade target rifle. It was in great shape and truly interesting...the damn thing weighed a ton too! There was not a single Mosin at the show.

So I head to the pawn shop to find out what the story is behind the $800 transaction. Well, it's making a bit more sense now. There was also an Enfield in the mix, but $800 cash out still seemed pricey for a pawn shop. He had the M44 behind the counter waiting for me to come in. Its a '52 Polish M44 with bayonet. The cleaning rod is missing and the bolt numbers don't match. It was in decent shape and very clean. It did have the large PW Arms import stamp. I asked the price and he came back with...$399 :beek:

There was another guy standing there and we were talking. He has a small collection of Mosins and we discussed the M44 while my buddy was talking to the boss (he let me hang onto the rifle while he was away...a good sign :) ). Anyway, after he told me the price, he asked..."what are you thinking its worth?" I said...on the outside, $200. No offense, but from here, I would expect to walk away with in more like $150. We looked up Gunbroker and it seems the true value is maybe in the middle, but I was closer than he was lol. So we decided to leave it on the rack with the $399 price on it. Since it will most likely be there awhile, he told me to come back sometime later and we could talk pricing.

I guess it wasn't all that bad of a day. I got to see some cool guns...and I still have a pocket full of cash :)

Ya that's a little high. I paid that for a mint 52. All matching, rod and didn't even look like it's been fired. You were probably on the money around $200.
