A couple of RF tack drivers.......

Post by desert drifter »

Been a while since I've posted anything....thought I would post a couple of pictures of my rimfires. Hang with me as I haven't quite figures out to use the image insert and get them to line up correctly yet.

The first one is the first successful .22 rimfire magnum semiautomatics manufactured by any company. It is the H&R in the delux model M700 DL. It has the H&R scope, I dont know who made the scope for these.

This one is the Ruger 10/22 with Weaver 2 x 7 scope in Leupold mount. KIdd trigger and home made magazine pouch butt cuff.

Both are little tack drivers as most are.

It took some experimenting but I think I've figured out how to post pictures better now.

That buttstock mag pouch is awesome! Would you be tempted to sell one?

Blake thanks much for asking, it is a very appreciated complement. After being openly admonished and embarassed in forum before being expelled altogether for selling one of my hand forged knive to a forum member who contacted me via a PM. I made a policy not to sell or trade on forums. Sorry but thanks for asking.

It is very simple to make and I would be more than happy to explain how it is made so you can make your own.

This forum has a classifieds section, steals and swindles is what we call it, I think. You can sell your stuff there, just keep it legal, and decent. No porn, no homemade hooch, no milsurp items that require altering the weapon :)

Nice rifles, but love that H&R! I think you would be just fine selling that stock pouch set up here on our classifieds section. Could it be made out of canvas?

It could be made out of canvas but would actually take longer to make. The edges of the canvas would have to be finished off and all the holes on cuff would have to be grommets, which might scratch the stock. I've got a good supply of the WWII US "Lift-the-dot" fasteners.

Image

I think some kakhi or OD canvas with those fasteners would be cool....almost like the WWII M1 carbine dual mag pouch.

That H&R is a looker. Sweet!!

They are Rob, the only thing that is not original in the tool set is the greyish looking hole punch. I use it to finish cutting out the hole in the fabrick for the top fastener. I've got just about 120 sets of fasteners. They GI stuff is getting to come by. And I think the tool set is scarce too.

These are really nice desert! Have you ever seen a Ruger 1022 magnum? They discontinued them, so they are very expensive. I've seen then go for 600-1000 bucks.

Anything WW2 is getting harder to come by, that's a nice setup.

to bunkysdad:

I saw a Ruger at a gun show years ago when they were being produced. I never knew why Ruger stopped production of them. It seems like a 10/22 in .22 RFM would ge a great little gun. Right off hand I cant think of any other autoloading .22 mags. My HR is great for long range plinking and prairie dogs. I've got 2 mags for it a 5 rounder and a 10. Ammo can be a little expensive but I always keep on the lookout for sales and deals on it. I've got plenty. A friend of the family was a game warden, back in the early days his working gun was .22 WRF. He used it on everything including bear and elk.

Seems like anything Ruger discontinues appreciates dramatically. I have a Ruger Old Army

Image

It has tripled in value since I bought it.

Another Ruger I wish I had would be a Ruger 10/22 International. They demand high prices too.

It takes gigantic balls to pop a bear with any kind of .22, that sort of thing usually ends up with the shooter becoming bear bowel movements.

Back in the 40's and 50's nearly all the bear that Chuck had to remove were trapped bear shot at close range. He told me there is an area on the bridge of the nost that is about the size of half dollar where the skull and the cartilege of the nose met. That was the spot he would hit allowing the bullet to enter in brain having a quick humane kill. I'm with you, I'd take my Marline 1895 guide gun.

They're actually still made by Scoville Fasteners in Georgia. My MGs all have lift-the-dot fasteners on their tops, they're actually a pain in the rear to operarte. :)
