Here's an M28 that has a lot going for it.
To start with, this rifle is in a double-slotted stock used by the ski and bike troops. These are pretty hard to find and many have met their demise at Bubba's hands. Bubba really seems to love "fixing up" the double slotted stocks
Next, this rifle has original matching numbers. NOT just matching to the serial or Civil Guard District- but both in the proper format. For the rifle to have original matched numbers it needs to have the bolt flat match the Civil Guard District number stamped on the right side of the barrel. In addition, it also needs to have the last two digits of the serial number from the left side of the barrel to be on the bolt knob and be preceded by the small "o" similar to that which precedes the serial number from the barrel.
To round out the matching numbers, the last two digits of the serial number should be stamped on the long side of the buttplate. From my research, this number was to make it easier for the Civil Guardsmen to ID his rifle while it was in a rack with only the buttplate visible.
FInally, as icing on the proverbial cake - it has the rare adjustable windage rear sight. These sights were an upgrade offered to the Civil Guard member at some point (I'm not sure of the year). These sights are quite rare to find as only a couple of hundred of them were installed and issued before they either were discovered to have issues or the arrival of the M28/30 and it's improved Mansner sight. Another factor in their rarity is the Civil Guard member was required pay for this upgrade with his own money, thus probably lowering the number of these sights installed by even that much more.
A rifle with any single one of these features would be considered desirable and collectible, but to have all of them on one really makes this one hard to improve upon.
Please feel free to critique the rifle, the information, or the owner
I hope you enjoy the photographs.
