1943 EX sniper

Post by notabiker »

found a 1943 Izhevsk ex sniper today. major chunk of stock replaced on the left side at ex scope mount. also scope SER # lined out. noticed shims on the stock at barrel mounting and at the rear tang. also the trigger pin that always falls out cleaning was staked at both ends. the bore was very nice. this is as close as i will get to a REAL sniper. i do not plan on screwing with it  . the wood and metal are nice. they sure did a nice job on patching in the wood on the left. the only negitive is somebody put back a bent bolt handle on it. not correct but i do not care. i would not have done it myself. my stuff is not collector grade. but i am very happy with my Mosins.

IIRC Samco sold some exsnipers with a bent bolt and no scope, sometime back. Look at your import mark, it may give you an idea or not. Nice find. :D :D

A straight bolt is around $25-$35 or cheaper if you just get the bolt body, much easier to use than that bent bolt piece of shit. You can't work the bent bolt with the palm of the hand Russian style.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

the more i look at my ex sniper the more i like it. the line out, welds and the spliced in wood on the left mean a lot to me. this rifle is a keeper. i traded my 1905 M- 91 tula for it and am glad i did. nether rifle is worth a lot. but i will have more fun with the ex sniper. i was not going to shoot the 1905 and i will for sure be taking this rifle out to shoot. the history of this rifle is the same as a sniper sitting in storage for 65 years. it was a crap shoot which rifles stayed snipers and which were converted. even if i got the absolute org parts to re sniper it the line out and wood repair would ruin it ever being a sniper again. better to be what it is now.
