My new 1935/1949 MO marked hex Tula 91/30

Post by mberoose »

Hey folks. Been a while. Was on here last December when I bought my M44...figured I'd show off my new 91/30. It's a double date 1935/1949 MO marked hex receiver Tula. I understand these are somewhat rare (as far as Mosin Nagants go), so for the price of $100, I couldn't pass it up. Numbers match, some force matched, but for the price I'm not too concerned...that might even be normal for all I know. Plus it'll look good next to my '48 M44.

In pretty good shape too.

Thanks for looking. :D

Er, Tula rather. Sorry...my brain currently has the dumb. Had surgery a couple weeks ago and a good night's sleep has been hard to come by lately. Trying to shake the zombie-like state. Jeez, I have an Izhevsk M44 too, I'm really losin it.

I'll tell ya one thing, the rifling looks awfully strong on it. One funny thing - the seller actually gave a choice of this one, or a round receiver Izhevsk '42 for the same price. The choice was obvious.

This having been nicely settled......I want to make you :Drool1: again......and again :Drool1:
...
Late this afternoon after work I drove 20 miles to my FFL to pick up the latest lady for the MN family .....

Right now I will just say this: She is a 33 Hex with some special markings. She will go into the bath later on, and as soon as the Cosmoline Perfume is at a lovable level, she will be photographed and I will share her with you, through pictures only , sorry.

Keep on drooling......:Drool1:

Thank you, that's more like it, makes it easier to analyse what you have there.
Whoever you bought it from must not have the ultimate knowledge of Mosins and you made the right choice, absolutely. We have 3 1942 Ishevsk here between my son and myself, only differing in collector's grade and accurateness on our conditions.
I would recommend you go into the resources of this site and analyse all the stamp marks on your receiver and wood, to get a rounder picture of what you have.

If your rifle still has the original crown and NO counterboring, you have a gun that went all the way to the end of the war in Good hands or minimally used as "way behind the lines weapon"; the many check marks could indicate something like that. A bureaucracy thing as everywhere else, only the guns at the front did not get this kind of check-up.

You said the rifling is excellent, good for you, you might have a pre-war shooter. ......I cleaned and shot my 43 Tula Round about 100 times and my rifling is still getting cleaner....The cleaning conditions in the field for these rifles were simply bad....that is why we still get crud out of all of them, only after 5 shots, intentionally......copperfouling and powder residue in the fields. And these bores are chromed...... so a thorough cleaning should do it, but it does not. Our motto here in the family is: Keep on scrubbing, baby!!! :pointleft: :pointleft:   and dance with the music...

Now, without you drooling too much, the undeciphered MO might have a meaning at all.....I am emailing with 3 people in Europe about this "BOLD STAMPED MO " on some numbers of Mosins, probably stamped by more important people than the workers in the Ukrainian Preserving/ :big shock: Mummifying Death Commando, :!: :big shock: :big shock:

I will, of course , post any new info. Good night, my new lady rests in her mineral bath till tomorrow...keep on drooling!!! 8-) 8-)

I've been looking over the various markings on it today, and there really doesn't seem to be much that's out of the ordinary on the receiver, but there's all sorts of weird little stamps on the stock. Various numbers here & there...haven't been able to find anything on them in the info pages. I'll try to take some pictures later on.

Almost all of the small marks and some of the larger ones are as yet unknown. People speculate about some of them, but without documentation it remains just opinion, or guesswork. The Russians do not talk about their arms production yesterday or today.

One thing I think I've deciphered from the info pages (and you can see it on the stock picture, that single diagonal slash mark in the box) is that this particular rifle was a Ukranian refurb. Kinda cool.

That's the wood refurb stamp, the box with vertical line is the metal refurb stamp. They did not always remember to put them on.
