Stiff cocking

Post by BillT »

I'm aware that the MN is in general, stiff on opening the bolt, but are there any tips for lightening it. I've seen that cutting a loop from the firing pin spring helps to lighten it. Has anyone tried this?

Btw I'm not talking about sticky bolt issue here, its stiff on an empty chamber too

got to smooth and polish all mating surfaces on your bolt, this will permanently do away with sticky bolt also. go to youtube, search for josh smith he has some very good videos that teach how to make your bolt a smooth as butter with no altering is status. I think he is a member here also.

Try putting some grease on the cams as I described in this thread. http://www.russian-mosin-nagant-forum.c ... f=5&t=6135

Sure worked wonders for me.

On a serious side oil and plenty of use is the best way to solve it, in the rifle that is :chuckles: Bill

Don't cut the spring, it needs to be strong to snap the primers effectively. With use the Mosin action wears in like a pair of boots.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.
