Looks like both were DOA
Re: '43 Izhevsk M91/30 Range Time
Great shooting. I only shoot 25 yards which is about 22 and some meters but even when I steady stance and such all of my shots are never that close, fairly close but not as close. Granted I just started shooting 2 months ago but is there a trick to sighting the rifle? I know the barrel sights have a cut of that I aligned but is there something I am not doing?

You gotta play with these things at different ranges and shoot from a good bench rest. This gun was shooting 8 to 10 inches high at 50 yards with the stock sights. I knew I needed something that would give me a taller front sight post to correct the error. As far as the windage, I used the old standby brass hammer and punch as well as an Elby sight tool to move the sight in the dovetail and got it dialed in first at 50 for both windage and eleavation then I backed my target up to 75 and shot these groups. My last shots were on one of three 18" by 18" steel plates that my club has installed on the range at 100 yards. Offhand I was able to hit the plate 9 out of 10 times with Bulgarian 1980 Light Ball ammo. I'm not that good offhand, so I'll take that. I'm not going to get into shooting basics and sight picture, but if you want some tips, send me a PM. By the way, 75 yards is nothing with this round and these guns. They should be capable of shooting a man-size target easily at 200 to 300 meters. Some folks are even doing competion with these guns at 600 meters. My eyes just can't do that well these days and my club range is only 200 yards long.laquak wrote:Great shooting. I see, thanks for the tip. I wear glasses + 3 eye surgeries when I was younger and working in IT doing computer work daily is a benefactor of me probably just having bad eye sight also. I guess I wont know untill I find an outdoor range here as closest to Philly. I also shoot standing aswell I never shot sitting down before.

When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work, because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work, because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation!

Hello,
I'm very glad you're happy with it.
The Classic Target is the name I gave the original sight after coming out with several other models, and I use mine -- it's still on the rifle -- for coyote control at 200 yards. My Mosin is a working gun and I expect it to do what is asked of it. I've not had a wounded or lost animal yet. A modest load of Varget under a 150 grain spitzer soft point is very accurate and has more smackdown at 100 yards than the SKS does at the muzzle.
That's good shootin'. Keep it up!
Regards,
Josh
