Surplus ammo question.

Post by BillT »

Hi All

Fairly new to shooting so forgive any dumb questions please, especially if this is one

I took out my first rifle purchase out for a test shoot today. Its an almost imaculate M39 Finnish Mosin. Shoots straight at 50 yards although I'd forgotten what a kick a 7.62 has lol! I stopped firing however when I saw this case I'd just ejected. Its got a fairly big crack in the case.

Its Bulgarian surplus ammo. I fired 20 or so rounds before I noticed this one, all ok. My question is, should I be worried about a pressure problem? I took it to my local gun shop and the guy there said its more likely to be an ammo problem than anything else. He checked the bore out and seemed happy with it, but I thought I'd throw it out there to see if you guys had had this problem with surplus ammo before.

Yep, I've seen that, I saw one recently split all the way down, definitely the ammo.

There have been lots of posts about ammo problems. Just check them out before shooting and you will be fine. :D

There was an issue with some of the 40s ammo that came on the stripper clips that were creased in that same spot before firing.

Like desdem said, there are a few threads about it.

And congrats on being new with a M39. Thats like learning to drive in a Bugatti. Post up some picks of that thing.

Have we seen pics of this M39?? Now we know you got a camera :) The problem with the ammo has been cropping up , this is not uncommon with surplus ammo.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
