Again, not knocking what I have. It will become the "shooter" with a PU scope set-up. I'm owning it for what it can do for me at the range, since my other PU is a safe queen.

Yes, it's a heavily refurbed gun. But from what I can see, it doesn't have any repro parts. Looks to be packed away legitimately for military readiness, and not recently pieced together - judging only from the caked cosmoline, it's been dried for quite some time. I could be wrong.

And over the years, a few of the R-guns snipers have been revealed with imperfections, and were certainly refurbished, though less extensively lined/EP'd, import stamped, and rehashed from salvaged sniper parts.

I bought a $600 gun, not the $800 offering. Satisfied? Yes. Surprised at the assembly and condition? No.

A few years from now (possibly sooner), some of these "AIM Snipers" will be popping up on the secondary market. We can only speculate what they'll bring at that time, but history indicates that nobody will have lost any money on these if they decide to sell. In the mean time, they are "what they are", and they are now part of Mosin Nagant collecting lore here in the United States. Excellent topic fodder, and hopefully decent shooters.

Not knocking what you got... As you say it is what it is & I personally wouldn't feel put out if I got one. I would imagine these will hold their value for years to come. Can't wait for the range report. :vcool:

Uncensored!

First off, I didn't buy one of these AIM snipers, so all can speak from is my limited experience and "all the pictures" that have been posted and range reports now showing up.

These do seem to be shooters with original parts, I think martin hit that nail on the head, especially if it was his intended use at purchase.

I would shoot the hell out of them, what do you have to lose?

Even though according to some, the sum of the parts comes out to be somewhere around the total cost of the rifles, it doesn't make these all that desirable, like the example that was posted by JYD, that is surely a collectable sniper!

Except for the initial hey "I can get a sniper cheap" excitement, these rifles don't have much appeal to me.

Some of the reasons this is so:

1) The stock fit on many of these look like something "bubba" could do in his garage.
2) The barrel markings on many of these looked to have been "refurbed" much more than is customary.
3) Explanations about these rifles seem to be very mysterious (why)?
4) The import marks are excessive and "do" detract from collectors value.
5) Why so cheap? Great deal? There might be a story in this as well.
6) Before you lay out even that kind of money shouldn't you know what your paying for in detail and it not be a crap shoot, obviously hand picked doesn't even resolve this issue.

Last but not least what the heck is this? It looks like it's smiling at you!

Never saw a mark like that on a Mosin before.

VERY happy with mine-as a collectible as I don't plan to ever shoot it.
There were some definite variances between the rifles I've seen pictures of thus far.

I feel I'm one of the luckier ones. Except for it looking like the entire rifle was dipped in a brownish shellac-type coating, mine is all stamped matching (bolt is probably a new force match)- including the rare stamped metal magazine floor plates that were only found on the '44 Tulas and a '44 Tula stamped stock. Only parts that aren't Tula stamped are the cocking knob, cleaning rod, and rear sight base.
Others may hate on it all they like-I'm still calling it a legitimate sniper. Refurbished? Absolutely!! Cobbled together? Speaking of mine specifically, I don't think so. Just a couple of parts added where needed and then cocooned in shellac like it was supposed to be stored for decades. I'm sure others will disagree

When I get to a computer, I'll post some pictures and let you guys decide.

Except for all the other ones that came with a great bore, and the stock fit is consistent with other examples.

These PUs are plenty real, albeit heavily refurbed. One thing to remember, the Rguns PU rifles came from the Ukraine, these came from Russia (hence the multiple import markings). Who knows how many times these rifles have been refurbed?

Took it to my home range behind my business today. Only had time for five shots with Brown Bear at 85 yds.

Bore sighting off my back deck at home, using a tree limb at about 100 yds, revealed that elevation was going to be in the ballpark, but it would likely shoot right. So I made up a wide target on a cardboard box.

Shot 1 - one foot right, 5" high - adjust left.
Shot 2 - two inches right, 5" high - adjust left and down.
Shots 3,4,5 - group was just larger than a quarter, one inch right, 2.5" high.

Funny that shooting didn't sharpen up the rifling, nor take out the pitting... but 1.5" group at 85 yds will certainly tell a good story with cheap commercial ammo. Now when I get the time, I can really dial it in. Very accurate gun.

Nice shooting, martin08!! Yet another one of these, "inferior" sniper rifles that are shootin' the lights out
I just smile at the hate a lot of people have been displaying for these rifles.

I surely succeeded in my goal. Bought a Mosin sniper "shooter". I've seen range results from snipers of other sources that weren't as promising as the AIM guns.

And the above was accomplished without the rear sandbag, nor the front for that matter. I forget them at home. Just laid the barrel across the top of a bouncy cardboard box. Can't wait to dial it in with good ammo and stability.

:vcool: :vcool: :vcool: If you discover an ammo that will remove pitting and sharpen worn rifling please let me know, and if it can fix a worn crown that would be cool also

Looks good. Have you shot it again yet? Happy with it? I'd sure like one.

Fired it again today with Bulgarian light ball. Bore cleaned up to a nice shine after brushing and a few patches, but I was disappointed with the grouping - two inch. Will try some different ammo next time out.

I thought we were forbidden for discussing these rifles, or did that change?
Hopefully it did.
