The more I see your shotgun the purdier it gets. The patterns in the receiver metal and wood is beautiful.

I have one like that - bought it in 1993. Modified choke, have the 5 shell sleeve, and slip on recoil pad. Thing kicks like a mule especially when shooting slugs.

The forend is a bit different shape and has a phillips head screw.

Yes it does kick :D I was told to get a "p"" pad by members of a shotgun forum. I said that since I shoot 8mm and mosins that I would wait and see. It now wears a "p"pad. I tried shooting 3 inch magnums and it was a bit uncomfortable to say the least. :D

What kind of slugs are you using Mr Hombre?

I bought several boxes of these back in '93 and still have a few boxes left.

How did they work for you? And how did the nef do with them? Did you happen to see how accurate at what distance our did you just shoot em? :D

I shot most of them at around 25 yards. I kept the targets but got lost in my last move. Did pretty good for not having a rear sight. I could hit a coffee can with them.

The NEF ate them just fine with no apparent problems except as I said, they kicked like a mule.

I carried it in a rear window gun rack in my Ford pickup most of the time while I lived in Butte Montana. Blasted a lot of columbian ground squirrels with it using #6 shot.

Thanks! I've got that stock sleeve full if 2&3/4 buck shot for unwanted visitors. Had a stabbing in the alley behind my house some months ago and that gun goes with me when I go out back for any length of time.

Sounds like you live in a nice neighborhood, interesting visitors, I would stick a bear trap back there. :)

We are working on leaving as I type. I do have several"traps"that are big enough to take care of a bear and my neighbors know that I practice with them frequently. 8-)

You should have held on to it, they are forever, the H&R toppers I have are still going strong a century or more after they were made.

They show up on GB, and are a staple in the used rack at local gunshops here.

I had thought of getting one of the barrel inserts they make and turning the Topper into a 45/70 single shot, but then I remember the lack of sights :)

Yeah i've been holding out to try to find a used one for really cheap. You can get inserts to shoot a boatload of other calibers. 22lr, 20ga, 410/45lc, 38/357mag, 44mag, 9mm, and the list goes on haha.

http://www.gunadapters.com/

And there are alot of other manufactures too.
