Nagant Revolver

Post by BuckeyeSgt »

Picked this one up today. 1937 Tula. Stars on all the parts and no import mark. What the heck is this ammo? It's halfway down the case.

That does not look like a typical import that's been coming in the country the last few years. Is there an import stamp on that revolver? Okay should have read the post more thoroughly, no import mark, could that be a bring back from Korea or Southeast Asia? Did they import any in bulk before 1968, Spain perhaps?

None that I could find. Doesn't look like a refurb either.

I like it :vcool: :vcool: The ammo is that way because it is a gas seal gun. When you cock the hammer the cylinder moves forward and it is supposed to seal.
A unique revolver to be sure

Ya I knew about the cylinder moving forward but this ammo doesn't look like what I've seen before. Almost like a training round??

I don't know how you got so lucky. That is a non refurbed revolver in beautiful original condition. It's the first one I have seen. Where in the world did you find it? It might be a bringback. How would you ever know? It is real nice.

I saw it in an online ad in Killeen TX. I had been looking for one around home but none to be found. So I had a chance to run down there today and pick it up. Real nice guy, held it for me for two weeks till I could get there. I don't see anything off hand that would be a sign for or against a bring back. There are a few other small marks that I thought would just be the normal mess of marks from the drunk Russian peasant but I will take a closer look.

That's just what I was thinking when I saw it, the inside holster markings may help. Could the revolver be one supplied to the Republic during the Spanish Civil war and imported in the early 60's?

That ammo is proper Nagant ammo. The long case is what seals off the cylinder when it moves foreward.
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

That is a great find  Very nice. If you get a chance, look on youtube for silenced nagant or something of that nature. It's pretty neat. It's the only revolver that can be silenced, due to the gas seal. I have 3 refurbished ones. Not bad for the price. I haven't shot them yet, however, one is for showing and two are up in really high places. Just in case Crack head Willie tries to come in at night. :big shock: :big shock: :big shock:

Try G. W. Leiper's site (he is one of top, if not the top, collector in this country of Nagant's). His main site on Russian Revolvers is:
http://www.russianrevolvers.com/

More specific his section on the 1895 Nagant.
http://www.russianrevolvers.com/naganta.html

There was a very good article in the October 31 issue of Shotgun News (Volume 65 Issue 30) starting on page 14. Most of the photos were courtesy GWLeiper (Joe).

That is one nice looking revolver. The stories it could tell.
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!
