Scope for the Mosin
I have been looking at different types of scope mounts for the 91/30, but still no closer to making a decision. One mounting system seems simple enough, remove the rear sight and the scope mount attaches in the recess, then use a long eye relief scope. Others look like a considerable amount of drilling, taping required (not a major issue) and one even appears to require modification to the bolt itself. Or maybe just stay with iron sights???

Tell your son....STEP AWAY FROM THE DRILL

Not sure what rifle you have but thay all are worth saving so no drill please. If you look around you can find a bubba somewhere and drill it

It only takes a few times for me to realize what you meant. I didn't want to do anything that would take away from the rifle, got to many others that I can play with. Thought there might be a way to put scope on it without serious rework. Thanks

Re: Scope for the Mosin
check out the "Scout Mounts" I think there is one called a Darrels Scoutmount.
Re: Scope for the Mosin
There are a few mounts you can use. I saw the one you are talking about on youtube, I think it was Iraqivetran888 or something like that. If you do that it would be ok i suppose...Hey its your rifle you can do as you wish. Have you Shot it yet,It might shoot real good. As far as those bolt mods, Those look cheap and i think destroys the look and definately the value. Try centerfire systems and places like it they have the ones that mount on the sight base and you can also look at scout scopes there to.

I would take it out and shoot it a little first, my 1928 Izhevsk was hitting a propane tank at 160meters with just the iron sights, having not adjusted anything.

Re: Scope for the Mosin
It is your rifle, that is correct.
If you decide to drill and tap it for a scope, please don't post it or tell about it here. Especially on this forum. That would not be considered "Preservation". There are other forums that "cater" to that, just not here. We advocate preservation of the history and integrity of the military surplus rifle.
There are scope mounts (if you need to do double duty with only one rifle) that
1) You remove the pins from the rear sight and the mount is attached to the original base of the sights that are usually soldered on.
2) You remove the top leaf of the rear sight and the mount attaches to the rear sight that is left (Darrell's mount, and there is another Mosin scope mount I keep forgetting the name of that is robust enough to hold zero

3) There are the "cheap" mounts that attach as above, but will not hold zero very well.
These types of scope mounting are OK with us here, provided you keep all the original parts with the rifle and not "alter" the firearm in any way. Also, remember, you are in the "Collectible Mosin Nagant Forum" and we advocate "Preservation" here.
