Do not cut galvanized metal without a mask, it gives off Zinc oxide fumes when cut, and breathing that crap in can give you what is called metal fume fever, all the symptoms of the flu for about 24 hours. Get enough of it in you and it's hospital time.
I read a story of a guy that got a good dose of it & he was in a real bad way. Spent a lot of time in the hospital, had bad breathing issues, organs shutting down & I think he needed a transplant too. Nasty stuff. :beek:

We will not even cut galvanized steel because of the potential health risks, most of it we get in the form of roofing tin, or old trash cans and it goes right in with the crushed cars. A lot of things will hurt or kill you if you cut them, fumes from various refrigerant gasses can kill, fumes from some types of plastics, pretty much all plastics if you get a good lung full will put you out. It's a long list.

Sorry, you did say that on the other thread.

That is just what the Soviet Union smelled like in 1947. Canned history.

Allergic reaction or common for the rest of us as well?

That's why I like the Finnish rifles, they spent most of their time trying to get the Soviets to take that stuff back...at high velocity.

This is a toxic fume,It only effects people who have lungs and breath air :big shock: bad stuff to play around with, paint coatings on metal can be bad as well, they can give off various toxic fumes.

Damn. I had better make sure that I am smooking a cigar the next time that I open up a spam can. To block out the fumes.
