m27 fin fake PU?

Post by Mantis »

I was watching a M27 FIN capture PU for sale on GB, I think some one got hosed.
There were 100 of the FIN M27s imported into the country, that's it. This rifle had a reserve of 750 on it as far as I could tell so the seller "I can recoup my cost." I bid 700 on it and watched it, I was about to bid 800, I wanted one then thought, "WTF? A R guns 'run of the mill' PU goes for that." I stopped right then. I remembered the rifle from before and I am sure that it was ID'd as a fake by some one on a forum. I think the seller listed it the exact same way. It looked good, but for that price? Kinda like a 5 dollar hooker @ 2am after a night fighting JD. It good was a good idea until you sobered up.
There were 4 or 5 bids on the rifle, I shut the computer off and didn't even look what it went for. 5 bids below 800 bucks for a rifle that 100 of them made it here. HMMMM???
I feel bad for the guy that bought it as I am 99% positive it was a fake.
Under 800 bucks was just to good to be true and we know what that means, it probably was.

I am not even familiar with a Finn M27 PU sniper. What is it about the word sniper that gets so many people all googley eyed? I really think I get it though. I know the cool factor is there, I just never knew it was so strong.

I think it's the video games. Everyone wants to be a sniper. Until they lay in their pee for 2 days and are staving, then it's not so fun. In AC on the couch not bad as it seems. It used to be, walk into the NCO club half get up and leave. I never knew if we smelled or they just didn't like us.
There were 100 FIN M27 snipers imported, I would think that hard core collectors have them all. And long ago. I am sure I have seen this rifle and kinda regretted making any bid after I thought about it. To put this into perspective:
I've just started collecting PUs in the last month. (why PUs? it was my job) Tulas are really hard to find I found both 43 and 44. I need a 42 PU Izhevsk pretty hard to find M27 very very hard to find.
A well documented PU, think Rguns, runs 800 bucks+ shipping. This rifle went for 750, 1 bid (thank god) over mine. ? 100 imported in the WHOLE USA??? 750 bucks??? :chuckles:
If it was captured, that would mean it was issued and if it is an Issued Izhevsk PU sniper it will have a scope number or a struck scope number or the recv'r will be turned and you would see the machining. The recv'r picture KINDA shows the side and I see nothing and I see no turn down tooling marks. And how come that is the only blurry picture in the lot??? That would be the second picture I showed, the struck or scrubbed scope number. The stamp you kinda see is a SA as far as I can tell That's as close to proof as you are going to get without the original import paper work and there was no mention of that in the description.
I think the last time I saw it listed or one like it listed was the end of last year. I don't know if it sold that time, but if it did this joker is making them as he goes along.
This rifle looks good and if you (I) didn't know better, I'd jump on it. Every Mosin collector would, that's why I know it's a fake 5 bids, really?? I didn't take time to look at other forums to see if someone has bragged about getting it. In fact a hard core collector without a M27 PU would damn near kill you for it.
As I see it:
1 they wrecked a Captured FIN
2 They wasted a 43 PU scope and mount, if it's even real, I wouldn't let round screws convince me on this rifle. (wish I had a repop scope see if the threads are the same in the turret screws.)
3 Some one got hosed or got a REALLY REALLY TO GOOD TO BE TRUE DEAL. I think the later Here's the pictures, you decide

First off if you know anything about Finn and Russian sniper rifles:

The Finn's never ever made a M27 PU sniper.

And it's not possible to have a "Finn capture" M27 PU sniper, because the Finn's were the only ones to make a M27.That would mean they captured it from themselves!

But the Duh moment is the Finn's never put a PU scope mount on a M27.

They did make a M27PH (M37). If that was a M27PH (M27PH then later a M37), It would be worth thousands of dollars. If it were real, but it never used a PU mounting system.

There was 100 of some Fin imported then no more after that. I also read that the Fins had a tendency to keep things and not report them. No matter these rifles are all over type in M27 PU sniper and watch what comes up.
Do you know which Finns he was talking about? And I wasn't the one that lied about it, put it up for sale, or worst off bought it for being a PU for 750 bucks. They just ruined a nice rifle. And you gotta admit it's a GOOD FAKE it got sold!!!!! ANd it seems he has more for sale now, make them as you go, RUIN every M39 out there, who cares :angry4:
I saw a FINN captured STV 40 "PU sniper" from a reputable company. PU mount and scope on a SVT 1200 bucks. I tried to argue the point, "Uh, they didn't make those, and why would they?"...........I lost.
Just info and you watch there will be another one from the same seller in a few months or next year so, (Read above been editing this) and now everyone on this board will know that there:
1 It's a fake
2 It's a fake because it was never made.
I'll try to verify it or I'll make it right in writing. I know I remember 100 Finn imported and no more.
Still looking, BUT CAI added a PU scope to Fins a few years back... SO they are out there, fake or not. And this same guy seems to be popping up with these riles for sale. I cannot believe that someone on gunforum did not call him out.
I don't know they are coming up and one on gunforumsM27 linkread towards the bottom
Ok Mr Dolk you were right again, go get a cup cake :chuckles:

Listen, never believe what you read on the internet. I can place anything on the internet I want to, doesn't mean it is real.

Here is an example of why not to believe it just because it is on the Internet. :chuckles:
http://thedolk.com/M27/

If you are not sure, Always go to Vic's website at http://www.mosinnagant.net/ Vic researched 99% of the information on Mosin. Much of it he did by "going there".

M27 section......read it....No PU mounts on a M27...period.
http://www.mosinnagant.net/finland/The-Finnish-M27.asp

All the crap about 100 coming into the US is just that.

It may just be me but, Pu snipers came out in 42 or so. Why would they make a M27 Pu when they could make any other one a pu. Captured 91-30s come to mind pretty quick, or even their own 9130. It does not make sense to me anyway.

I know less than nothing about the snipers, but the wood work around the mount does not look like something the Finns would have done either.

I wonder if the seller is the same one that has been advertising a 91/30 as a M-91 for the last month, with a start price over $200.00. Or possibly the seller that has been advertising the T-53 as a early Korean war bring-back. When I questioned the seller about the T-53, he got kinda pissy about it. His only evidence for the "bring-back" is that it was not import marked and he had a story from the guy he bought it from. He informed me that he had been in the firearm business for forty years and he knew a bring-back.

I am begining to think that not all of the sellers on GB are knowledgable or honest.

I'm still new to the "collecting" of rifles and such but I'm told I have an eye for detail. I am a retired military aircraft mechanic and currently employed in industrial maintenance. There is one thing I have noticed on all these rifles that people are saying are fakes. Look at the screws that would normally not be moved much, if at all. Without exception there is damage to them in both directions. Tightening and loosening. Missing bluing, twisted metal. I would imagine the bottom mount would not be removed much but the mounting hardware looks like it was worked on by someone less than capable in many instances. Just my 2 cents.

I heard that century took a few hundred M27s and mounted the scopes to them. I think they were imported in the late 80s, early 90s?

That could be what this rifle was.

The entire point of this thread is "Know what you are thinking of buying, before you buy", or "a fool and his money are soon parted". Especially with high dollar rifles.
