RGUNS PU Sniper scope

Post by BRITT »

Hey guys new to this forum. Just bought a RGUNS Sniper and took it to the range last night to see how it shoots. Of course all over the map but started to get the hang of it near the end. Noticed that my elevation adjustment was loose and could not get complete rotation around to the stops. Also felt like there was sand under the adjustment. Went home and took it appart and found it had 2 compression washers adn that they were both completely split in half. I cleaned all of the excess grease out of the area and reassembled using only 1 washer. Could now get complete rotation but still not completely smooth and still way to easy to turn I think. My questions is..... Does anybody make or have any of these washers? I would really like to tighten up and fix this area before i go back out to the range.
Any help is appreciated!!!
LOVE my SNIPER!! and am so thankful to all the info you guys have provided. It really helped in selecting one.
Should I use a bore sight on my scope?
Also any help with sighting in is appreciated.

Welcome to the forum, don't know were you can find scope parts, maybe someone else will have a better idea. Bore sights are a convenience to get you close to the target the first time out, you still have to fire the weapon to fine tune the scope. I would suggest finding one of the laser type bore sighters, one that inserts into the chamber. The old style mechanical bore sighters are made for more conventional scope setups that sit lower on the weapon, when using them on a PU you would need an extension to raise the bore sighter up another half inch or so and they are a pain in the ass to use. Are there pics of this new PU ?

As JYD spoke bore sighters really will just get you on the paper and then are useless for any further work. Most Russian rifles or for that matter any rifles that have a large distance between the firing line of the barrel and the sighting line of the scope mean to use a bore sighter you need something to make the bore sighter line up with both. I sold my bore sighter years ago because I mainly deal with Russian scope set-ups and they are useless without an adapter of some sort.

That scope should move surely and cleanly and not be lose. I would see if RGUNS will warrant it or give you some help in anyway before I went looking elsewhere. They seem to be agree able people maybe they can help out some way. I know of no one who even mentions they have scope parts for a PU or many other Russian made scopes. Would it be possible to maybe duplicate the part from hardware store stocks? I don't know if they would have those little boxes we use to have when I raced but they offered a collection of O-rings and compression washers and were not that much money when you considered long range use in the future was possible with them. Good Luck! Bill

Welcome! Its nice to hear that you read about the rifle before your purchase. Saves on the heartache of buying a fake. I would also suggest calling rguns. Then I would head to the nut a bolt section at the hardware store and see what you can find..p.s. picts or it ain't true. :D

Bill, I had the bore sighter adapter, the scope on my 1895 Marlin sits higher than normal so I can still use the iron sights in an emergency, dam thing never worked right so I just went and spent $40 worth of ammo sighting it in the old fashioned way .

Head to the plumbing section at your local Lowes. The faucet repair section will have pegged bags of small washers and o-rings. You should be able to find something that will work.
