Arsenal Inc. SGL 21-61

Post by tjtM38 »

So I finally took the plunge and ordered one of these guns through Davidson's Gallery of Guns. I have been looking for one for over six months and nobody has stocked them. I finally got an email from Davidson's indicating that they had the gun in stock. A quick check on their website indicated 44 units on hand. I think they are down to 38 as of my purchase.

This is a Russian based AK-47 type semi-auto with a stamped Izhmash receiver and Russian chrome-lined barrel. From everything I have read about it, this is as close to Russian milspec as any AK type on the US market. If anyone has experience owning this weapon, please post or send me a PM. I have never owned an AK type weapon, so I am breaking new ground. Any information would be appreciated.

How does it compare with the Saiga?
Looking forward to your pics of it. :)

The receiver does have SAIGA on it. It also has the triangle/arrow logo of Izhevsk and some other Russian markings on it.

I just put a deposit on the gun. It has to be shipped to my dealer and I should pick it up next week. I will post pics when I get it.

You know, I'm wondering if they changed the name?
I was Googling Saigas last night, specifically ones in .308, and Arsenal kept coming up.

You need a slide fire for that bad boy now

I have it better then that actually. One of my friends bought it and has to keep it here. I have free use of it and also his ammo is here too.  It was $479 +tax so just over 5 bills. It works great. He also got a 25 rd mag for it and it eats ammo like it is free with that one on there. Empty a 25 of .308 will put a 25 minute smile on yer face though.

Arsenal rifles and krebs custom rifles are built off saiga rifles. They take the same basic saiga we can get and remake it to akm standards. I love saigas. They are pretty much the closest thing you can get to a new russian made ak. Im hoping to get one of the base sporting rifles and convert it to ak specs myself and try to save a few bucks. :)

Davidson's sold out of the SGL 21-61 in a day and a half -- all 44 units. I'm fortunate to be getting one. My dealer says it will be here Monday or Tuesday for me to pick up.

Dang thats fast. Do a review of it when you get it. If you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost from them?

I don't mind telling you what it cost me. I don't have a FFL, so this had to be transferred to my local dealer. They have an agreement with Davidson's to do this and have done it routinely. Before I bought the gun I went through my local dealer to see if they could get it through one of their sources. They could not; so I proceeded with the "Gun Genie" sale through Davidson's.

Sale Price: $836.00
Transfer: 13.95 (this as I understand is the receiving dealers fee)
MS Tax(7%) 59.50
Total $909.45 out the door

I guess thats not bad if its up to the quality standards I've heard arsenal upholds.

Des thats a nice looking saiga! And 308 to boot. I never got to convert my saiga 12 before I got rid of it. That is the only gun I've gotten rid of that I regret alot. Ive been eyeing the 7.62x39 rifles for a while now. I hope I can get one before they all disappear. :)

That's about right for the going rate on an Arsenal AK. The Arsenal rifles have a great reputation for being top notch in quality. I had the chance to hold one at a local gun shop and fell in love with it and the fit was perfect. They really are beautiful rifles! Congrats and give us a range report when you get to shoot it.

The rifle came unexpectedly today, so I picked it up. Looks just like an AK! Think I'm going to love it! :)

Great pics

Are you able to lock the slide open? I thought the newer Saigas came with the notch in the safety lever to catch the charging handle. I can't imagine Arsenal doesn't have something, or a lever like Saiga's shotties.
The charging handle sure is bright :bwink:
