New to me Mosin

Post by full clip »

Recently bought a Mosin Nagant the barrel is stamp 1943. Here is a picture of the first 4 shots taken when I got home from the gun shop. Shots were taken at 40 yards off-hand.

Beautiful rifle; I love the wartime stock. Welcome to the forum. I wouldn't mind seeing a few more close up pics; we love 'em.

so,is that a 1940-1942 stock? would not 1943 and 1944 have partial escutcheons on front and rear sling holes?
1945 would be 1945 and post war press in escutcheons.

Ain't that the truth. Just got my first mosin through Buds "system" and wound up with a nice 1940 Tula on a post war stock with pressed in Sling Slots. From the research I have done (I should havce been warned about this) my mosin is a collection of parts from both arsenals ( even the bolt head and extractor) with stamps and markings everywhere. My favorite is the large star with an arrow in it lightly branded on the stock. So as you guessed it I had to order another and already have ammo on the way. Fun stuff.

Not too bad Dill! If your camera has a macro setting use that, and the more light you can put on it the better. Not the flash though. :D

I wouldn't worry about the mix and match nature of any of these because that's pretty much the way all refurbs are. If you find one that's all matching then I'd question that. That and I'd play the lottery, lol.
