Took the leap
Ordered a 91/30 Sniper from Rguns wednesday. Should be here sometime this evening. That's one less they have. Will post pics and number info after I get it cleaned up.

The real thing, accept no substitutes

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Pics as promised. I don't think I could have asked for a better example. The folks at RGuns were great. I am as happy with it as I could possibly be. Came with a bayonet, ammo pouch and a sling. I need to get some decent clips if anyone has a dependable source. I'm not sure how to post straight pics so I'm providing links.

Damn that's pretty! SVT scope and laminated stock, looks like a bottom of the barrel rifle to me!

Re: Took the leap
That is the absolute the only time I have seen a laminated stock on a sniper rifle. It was always thought to be incorrect and a sure sign of a reproduction (fake).
M91/30 laminated stocks were not used until post war. So the stock is a post war replacement.
If it weren't on a RGUNS sniper rifle, I say fake or put together. But all the other parts look real and it is marked RGUNS and we know theirs are real, so congratulations, you have an oddity.

That's the way they sent it. An oddity.. makes me feel kinda..special. Wife likes it though. There are some cartouche on the stock. I may be wrong but I think the "divers flag" means a rebuild? She was tempted to skip work and spend the day at the range. The trigger pull on it is very smooth. I was pleasantly surprised by the bore being as nice as it is. The bolt just glides through it's travel. I can't wait to get it out and stretch it's legs.
I took a few minutes and went over to Gunboards' Sniper thread. In the area where Vic is detailing his trip to RGuns there is a photo of PU's in the crate. It LOOKS like one of them is in a laminated stock.

Re: Took the leap
Tnmosinfan, I love it. You may not realize what this represents......yet. congrats buddy
It just goes to show what I have always thought, but never said. When it comes to Russian Sniper rifles, I just don't see how anyone can say with final authority what is 100% real and authentic. A Vietnam battlefield bringback that has not been altered since picked up, 'cept for cleaning, that woulfd be a real authentic sniper. Captured in the act of sniping. Refurbished rifles with the correct original rifle, stock, mount, screws, scope, lens covers, marks, and correct IMPORT MARK have been scrutinized for years. If any little detail can be "proved" wrong for being sniper correct then the proud owner upon showing his new acquisition gets a public lambasting that causes the rifle to be shoved to the back and never mentioned again on forum. Yeah without a overwhelming acceptance the reproduction sniper rifle, due to the fact that a real gun was ruined to make it, becomes the "unmentionable sniper".
Congratulations on what is definitely the first laminate sniper rifle I have ever seen, as it will become the poster child for every expert that catches a glimpse of it. This rifle will be referred to from other forums, and every detail will be scrutinized. Why has R-Guns waited till now to send a laminate sniper? Maybe they haven't. Perhaps others have one but didn't want to be the poster child. Perhaps you are the first, the guinea pig to see what public acceptance is. And..... maybe it is a real, rare, legitimate sniper rifle, accepted by the experts as authentic, big R-Guns import stamp in just the right place and everything, and then you can bet one thing- it's value will double, and the next time a laminate goes in the mail, it won't be random.
Just my philisophical $.02. That and 3 bucks will get you a cup of Starbucks black coffee all over town.- Russell

Re: Took the leap
You are correct in stating that I have no idea what it represents. I'm not what I would call a collector. It was something my wife and I did for each other since we both enjoy shooting and she already has an M1c. If it helps further the collecting community knowledge then by all means I'll be the guinea pig. I'm old enough to have a pretty thick hide
I'm sure there will be some that will question it. When I picked it up the FFL watched me pull it out of the box. He liked it so much he made a copy of the receipt (for the address and all) so he could order one. At the very least I'll get RGuns an order or two.
