Mini 14

Post by Buckhead »

:D :D :D
I just picked up one for my bucket list. It is a Mini 14 sr# starting with 184 and I think it may be
a 1985 or 86 I don't know for sure, but maybe one of you could help me with that. It has a black
folding stock and I paid $400.00 for it. It has a good clean bore and is in what I would call very
good condition. I wont be able to get to the range for at least two weeks, but I hope I did good.
I will probably scope it if it shoots good. Any input on a scope mount would be appreciated. or
any input on the gun it self would also be appreciated. This forum is a greatest. you all are so helpful.

Thanks"
Bob.

Congrats on a Bucket list score  ,I went with the B-Square mount, have had no issues with it, other than I don't shoot it much any more.

Here is mine, it's a 186 series with the B-Square mount. the scope has been replaced since these shots, I stuck it on a .22 rifle.

Very nice. It could be 84, 85, or 86. Will need more of the serial # or you can find it on the Ruger website.

I know a guy who had a stainless one back in the early 90's, don't recall there being any problems with it, he traded it off when some fool offered him twice what he paid for it. Why can't I come across people like that !

OK call me a fool, but I'll give you twice what you gave for that 28/30 you bought in the '90's
What to I owe you, $100 :chuckles: :chuckles: :chuckles:

Sell? :big shock: You know I got that hoarders disease, only instead of buckets of human waste I hoard firearms, and firearm related products  They got no pills for that yet, so it remains impossible for me to part with anything once it vanishes into the depths of my collection :chuckles: sorry.

Greasemonkey how accurate is it. :?: I picked mine up today and 500 rounds of tula.
But I am going to VA. and NC. next weekend and will not get to the range for at least two weeks. :vsad:
I was talking to a friend of mine that had one he said it was not very accurate past 100 yds.
and what I read on the net about the accu-struts make a big difference.
The one I picked up is a 184 series with the thin barrel and folding stock.
How do you like the B square mount. :?:

I had one of those from the same time period. I wonder if it's my old one :bwink:
I don't recall ever shooting it at paper or pulling the trigger just once, so couldn't tell you how accurate (or not) it might have been. It was fun and reliable. I can tell you that.
You see in this world there are two kinds of people my friend, those with loaded guns... and those who dig. You dig.

I have never really shot it for an accuracy test so I can't give you numbers. I've busted gallon jugs at around 100yds with ease. :D The one thing I was told by a local shop, is the older thinner barrelled models seem to have the a few accuracy issues(heat/stringing shots). He looked at mine and told me to shorten the barrel by 1 and 1/4 inch, for a total barrel length of 17.25 inch. I cut it to what he said, he recrowned it, and sure enough, it did get slightly better accuracy out past 75 yds(I hit the gallon jug a whole lot more  real scientific test, I know  ) That's the reason for the flash hider that is installed now....

The scope mount has been great, easy to install, set up and holds very well. Yea, cutting the barrel is a bit much, but where I live, there is always a Mini-14 for sale somewhere around the corner

I got to shoot mine last weekend and I think it will do just fine.
I will probably put the acu-strut on mine instead of shortening the barrel
and do the B-Squair scope mount. The only other mount would require
removing the peep site and I don't want to do that. Thanks for your feed back.
I was In Virginia and North Carolina for a week and just got back.
Thanks again
