1938 Tula 91/30 - Marbled Stock

Post by BostonMike »

I picked up this 91/30 about a year ago as my first Mosin and first rifle ever. I researched for weeks and weeks prior to my purchase, and needless to say I pretty much decided I was going to buy this rifle as soon as I laid my eyes on it.

1938 Tula. Force matched stamped numbers, with the mag floorplate, buttplate, and bolt lacking the cryllic prefixes. Vast majority of parts on the rifle are Tula star stamped. The stock is what makes this rifle. It also features a brass handguard.

Stock has a faint Tula star imprint dating it to more than likely 1929-1939. The Milled barrel bands are Tula Hammer stamped

Receiver is very clean. Import mark is on the muzzle and discreet. Very few inspection marks on the receiver. The stamping is strong, and features a refurb "box" stamped on the "No" but lacking a verticle or diagonal slash. Bolt features mostly Tula Star stamped parts, except for the bolt handle which is Izhevsk Triangle stamped.

Stock does have an interesting repair on the bottom behind the triggergaurd

It has maybe 100 rounds or less thru it. I don't shoot it much and it still sweats Cosmo on the rare occasion I take it to the range. It always draws compliments, especially of anyone else is shooting a Mosin that day. It's easily my favorite Mosin to look at.

Now that's what I'm talking about!!! That stock is literally a one in a million... You just don't see em like that. :vcool: :vcool: :vcool: :vcool:

I nominate this for the Mosin Showcase... The first 91/30 that gets put up there. And it is a special one.

Do you know what that stock repair may just be? That maybe a cutdown real old M91 stock which at one time had a old style mag and trigger housing that had a finger rail on it. Look back in your early Mosin history and at one time many years ago that may have been an M91 stock made for that real early model. So besides having a knock down dead great looking stock I think you have a converted to M91/30 specs real old M91 stock. Now that is one you should keep for the duration and enjoy!!!!
Congrats on a great gun and do enjoy it in the years to come. Bill (very envious one I might point out) :D For you!

1938 Tula 91/30 - Marbled Stock

I thought that as well but two things keep me from thinking it is an older m91 stock.

1 is the repair doesn't extend as far back as it should for an early finger support repair

2nd is the Tula star stamp suggests post 1929...although I guess this could have been added later

It does have the typical repair found on a lot of stocks at the nosecap, so it could be cut down.

I need a shooter. I need a 42/43/44 Izhevsk that I'm not worried about dinging up at the range or if I don't get to cleaning right away.

That way my nice mosins can stay cozy and clean in the safe :)

Notice that for the most part this is a regular refurb & it's on the Showcase. But it has something that sets it apart.

It would be great to see some more submissions of the more common, but still unique or interesting Mosins. :vcool:

Very nice! Congrats on the Showcase admission. I also have a '38 refurb with a "pretty" stock. At least it's pretty to me :D
