Mosin-Nagant Intervention Rifle

Post by sbkittrell »

After buying my first Mosin Nagant Tula M91/30, I was unable to control myself and with-in 8 days I bought an M38 and M44. I'm worried that I maybe out of control. So, as an intervention, maybe I should buy a different military surplus rifle. I was looking at some Enfields when I bought the Mosin carbines as a matter of fact. So I figured I'd poll you guys to see if you think an Enfield, Mauser, or Springfield intervention rifle. Or, as the poll says, should I just shut up and get me an M91 Sniper which is what I really want most of all.

Actually My answer would be, "Just buy the Sniper and enjoy"
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

Hard to say, I came to collecting Mosins after I had already been a US milsurp collector for a long time, I had Enfields, Garands, '03's, Mauser's, but until the 90's came along there just wasn't any real supply of Mosins to collect past a Finn M91, or SCW 91/30 should you happen to find one. The problem with collecting the rifles on your list is not availability, they are all over gunbroker, it's the cost. A nice US M1903 can run over $700 today, even the RC K98k will go over $300, maybe more now, and Enfields are in that range as well . There are always exceptions, someone gets lucky and finds a bringhome K98k for $100 at a tagsale, matching numbers with bayonet and video of the 90 year old veteran telling the story of it's capture, but that ain't us, we pay the two grand for such items. If you want to avoid a second or third job to pay for the milsurp addiction it's best to stay with the Mosins for now :)
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Buy what you like, what you can afford & if at all possible, buy low. If you decide to part with it later you will be able to get your money back + some if you buy at good prices.

Also, if you plan to start buying more than 3 Military surplus guns in one year, consider getting your 03 FFL if you don't already have one.

That's right, I'm not helping at all, I voted "All of the above" and did you expect anything less??!!

Enjoy the ride... And happy shopping. :vcool: :vcool: :vcool:

JYD pretty muched summed it up. If you want to continue your habit and maintain your addiction, continue to buy Mosins while there is a continued supply of import guns. You can currently buy five or more Mosins for what one nice Springfield may set you back, and once you buy a Springfield you'll be really hooked on an expensive habit. Though keep an eye on the market place for the occational Springfield or Enfield let go at a firesale price then get it while you can.

Right now there are deals to be had in regards to Milsurps. Many people part with them when times get tough so right now it is kind of a buyers market.

The problem I see you having is the same problem that I had. Once you decide to buy a Mauser or an Enfield you will figure you are happy with the one...until you realize how many variations of those rifles there are out there. Soon you wont be able to rest until you have one of each model or country of origin and the whole sickness will start all over again. Honestly though, you have to buy what speaks to you and if an M91 Sniper is what you really want then get it before its too late or you will be kicking yourself. You can always start a new milsurp addition once you satisfy your Mosinitis.

I've never bought a rifle, so I'm withholding my opinion.

X-all of the above.

Tough one. You know, coming from someone with a PU Sniper, They are nice and it's cool to have, but it would be a hard choice if I had to choose between my O3A3 and my PU Sniper. I have some enfields and they are awesome and I have a few Mausers and they are pretty cool too. But all in all, I think My Finns excite me the most. I don't know what it is, but a Finnish M27 for example will get my blood boiling way faster than a PU Sniper and I can still have money left for something else. But if you have the money, buy the PU, cause you just don't know when they will ever be available again, when they dry up. I know that didn't help. :big shock:

Buy the Sniper and be happy. But be sure that is what you want. Some times the wanting can cause you to want something so bad that when you get it you don't like it. Been there done that one.

Thanks for the input. I ended up buying a Czech Mauser and a Lee Enfield. But my next rifle will be a RGUN PU Sniper... I hope.

If they still have them by that time!

Never know! They have had rumors that they were running out now for the last 2 or 3 years.
