With all this 10/22 talk I though I would post this up again. Been shooting it my entire life jam free, was companion on many camping trips when I was young. Dad purchased new in the mid 60's these really are great auto loading .22's

Sweet.
You see in this world there are two kinds of people my friend, those with loaded guns... and those who dig. You dig.

Nice, mine is about the same vintage, and used by me for many years :)

very nice. even with all the cool accessories now days I can't bring myself to change anything on these old classics. I have one made in the early 70's but you already know that yours was one of the earliest with that 4 digit serial. They were sure willing to use the nice walnut back then. I have a 44 carbine that is the same size and fires 44 magnum, it's a handfull alongside it's little brother, the 10/22.

I've been a fan of these for a long time and believe it or not never shot one until yesterday. After the problem we had with my buddy's and subsequently taking his apart to repair it I like them even more. Very simple design. His is a 1985 give or take. I really have never researched them to see when they started making them and seeing one that goes back to the 60's is really cool. Nice rifle. We have a school auction here anually and I almost bid on one a few years ago but let someone that I knew was getting it for one of the kids take it without bidding. They'll have lots of memories with that one. My buddy told me yesterday that the rifle I fixed for him was the first rifle both his kids shot and he even told me his oldest would ask him every night to go outside and shoot. He was only three. Wow! Monty told me he would have to hold the rifle so Bryce could shoot it. I'll tell you this that boy is one heck of a hunter now.

My Dad bought me my first gun in 1966; it was a standard Ruger 10/22. It was a completely new design back then and not too many people had them. I loved that gun; still do. I have two of them; a 1981-vintage blued gun and a stainless with a laminated stock that I got a couple of years ago.

Mine is a 1972 and my grand son's love it as do I. i have friends that have new ones and they
say that there is something about the feel of the old one has over the new one.
They don't know what it is but they say mine just feels better. I don't see it, but I like mine
and take it to the range often. :D

My only complaint with Ruger firearms is the dang lawyer mandated crap on the barrel. That and the use of plastic to save money (on their part) that is not passed on to the consumer (our part)
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

Commercial sporters, I don't care if they write on them so long as they shoot straight, it's the milsurps I wish they wouldn't stamp shit on.

They are like the Marlin 60, first .22 for almost an entire generation or two of shooters. Great .22, mine has been on the range many times since I bought it used for $40 in 1989.

Oooooo...that hurts me. I had a chance to buy one like that years ago......had the money and didn't. Regreted it ever since. Very nice. Now I need to go dry my eyes.
