Today's pics, Ruger 10/22

Post by pacanis »

All this talk about 22's...
I took my Ruger 10/22 Carbine out back and shot ten shots offhand at a 3" target. (Ignore the bigger holes, they were from my SVT yesterday). I was shooting fairly fast. "Combat mode" and the gritty trigger disapears.
Then on my way back I saw a head sticking out of a hole. I know from the distance (about 15 yds) and amount of blood it was a direct hit. The second foliage pic would have been the opposite side of his head. He slid back into the hole. Probably would have been a little too graphic anyway. As I was taking the pics another head popped out and quickly ducked back inside. There was much chatter going on for their fallen brother. I will pay this hole a visit later on. I'm sure they are going to be going a little nuts and showing themselves often.
Lean and mean. Nothing but a Williams peep site and a 25 round Butler Creek banana mag.

If they weren't so expensive I'd get a Rodenator and fill up the holes at the same time
Something will dig it out in a few days and I'll smell him before I see his remains.

I have moles that like to destroy my grass.

I have been tempted to stick the muzzle of a 12 gauge into one of those mounds many times.
Some people are like slinkies....

They are not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when pushed down a flight of stairs.

The 10/22? It's the carbine model.
The sight? It's a Williams something. I't pretty tricky to adjust. I guess the difference between an eighty dollar peep and a forty dollar one. That's why it shoots to the right, but it's close enough for me on this gun.

So nice to step out to smell that first thing in the morning, the stench hanging heavy in the humid, still morning air.

... and then you see the source of the stench... nothing left but the tail, hide, a stringy piece of intestine and a greasy black spot. In a day or so the skull will sometimes magically reappear.
Ahh, memories...

A nice teeming pile of maggots, natures clean up crew. A dead deer escaped the town highway crews attention a few years back, first it bloated, then the flies, then the maggots, millions of maggots, and larger critters picking at the remains, the stink hit you before you got 50 feet from the mess. I had to dump a bucket of dirt on it with the loader and the smell made my eyes water as I did it. last fall it was a coyote, got hit and crawled away into the brush to expire. We smelled something , fearing a body dump I carefully checked, and found the bits that were left after the 'coons got down nibbling, they strung the guts out like Christmas lights. None of that is as bad as human remains however, maybe it's the shit we eat , or some other reason, but people stink worse than anything else when left to molder in the warm summer air. Old fellow who was a regular buyer at the neighbors tag sale didn't show to pick up some furniture he had paid for. A week goes by, then ten days, finally after trying to call him the neighbor asks me to drive her over to check on the guy. I got five feet from the front door and the smell was very clear. Police were summoned, one young deputy vomited explosively after stumbling out of the house, a serious decomp, poor bastard had a heart attack and died , lived alone. At least he didn't have pets, a friend was on a work crew back in the late 80's drilling a new well when the guys broke for lunch they noticed a smell in the air. Figuring it was a deer they went to investigate, the smell got stronger the closer they got to the house next door. My friend was elected to go knock on the door, he does, and gets a good look through the window as he holds his shirt over his mouth and nose. There was a dead man on the kitchen floor, badly decomposed and half eaten. Seems he passed suddenly a week or two before, and he had eight or ten cats....... He claims not to have puked, but I have it from his coworkers that he screamed like a little girl, tripped over his own feet running away and puked for half an hour. Worst part was the man turned out to be a customer of ours, drove a '69 Caddy Deville, and I was holding a back window glass for him. Here I am thinking evil thoughts about people who order shit and then don't come and collect it and the guy was lying there dead and feeding his cats the whole time.

He didn't keep that job for long, he now works for the highway department in the next town, he has not been curious about anything not his business since that incident.
