No idea about the K, but I have seen two of these that came back from Korea.

ok thanks. thought it may have been a Vietnam bring back, but then the more though about it figured it would have been a Chinese one if it was from Vietnam.

Vietnam is also possible, the Soviets did send aid to their socialist brothers in North Vietnam , the Chinese sent more.

Some early import M44s were import marked on the front barrel, or the front sleeve for the bayonet. May have gotten obscured when the bayonet was removed. Was the stock sporterized or was it cut and still there? There are bringbacks out there, but there are also a lot of Bubbas. Was the appearance like refurbs or patina covered. I know of one locally that is sporterized and almost certainly a bringback, but it sits in the pawn shop still because it it too expensive. Shame because it was a matching gun before it was turned into a sporter.

I don't recall all the details of the Korean bringbacks, it was a long time ago that I saw them, but I think one of them had the box and slash mark on the wood, that would indicate it ad been refurbished. Not surprising as I bought a string of issued 91/30's that also had refurb marks on them. Not every refurb was put into storage, while the Mosin was still in use during the early post war period some were just reissued, or sent away as aid.

it is not matching the bottom of the mag has a line out. the gun is cut like a duffel cut and the whole stock is still there. it is a nice gray patina all over.

A line out would indicate that at one point the rifle was refurbished, they did the line out business only during refurbishment when they were too lazy to grind off the old number.

There was one at my LPS a month or two ago, with the cut piece held in place by the cleaning rod. but I would not have bet a plug nickle that it wasn't cut this year. Believe it or not, not all Pawn/Gun shops are honest.

I am surprised by the duffel cut also being that the M44 easily fit's into a duffel bag without cutting anything, it is a carbine after all, now the 91/30 would need shortening.

I think the "K" on the receiver is the Russian and USSR factory "point of aim proof". I guess it means it will hit what you aim at.

Did you ever notice whenever a rifle is chopped up there is a story with it? Regardless of what the rifle looks like this story is entertaining and fascinating! Is there a pattern here? Is the story covered by genuine bringback papers? Are all the parts there and in one piece? Is the price reflective of the condition and completeness?

Make a real low ball offer and reflect on why that price is so low and see what happens. If you are polite and respectful you will often get the weapon for that price or close if you really want it. If not you walk away with a respect from the seller for the next one he tries to sell you. BS worked once will often be repeated, BS reflected upon as such will more than likely not be repeated and you have the power to set the proper pattern. Bill

Papers, or I am buying it right from the aged veteran himself, otherwise it's just a story.
