Hunting With the Gewehr 88?

Post by Josh Smith »

Hello,

I'm wondering if any of the owners here of the Gewehr 88 Commission rifle still hunt with it, and if so, what do you hunt?

My handloads are used on coyote. They exceed the SKS loads but at pressures the rifle handles just fine.

Regards,

Josh

How's it working out on those coyotes?
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Hello,

Well for pest control -- it turns them inside-out.

There's a season in Indiana -- right now I have to report any taking of the animals to the DNR, but during the season we shoot them for furs which usually ultimately end up in Russia.

I won't use it, or the Mosin-Nagant, for fur shooting. The exit wound is about the size of my fist with 150 grain soft-point spitzers.

Josh
