Cleanup/Preservation question
Cleanup/Preservation question
I just got a 1931 Izhevsk (pictures after I clean it up) and the hand guard caps appear to be brass painted black. Should I leave them black or remove the paint so the brass shows? I want to be as historically accurate as possible as its a early stock with the screwed in sling slots.

Leave it be, as you shoot it and clean it the paint will come off eventually
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: Cleanup/Preservation question
I would just clean the rifle like you normaly would. Sometimes the paint comes off doing this and if it does leave it off but if it stays i would leave it like that .
Re: Cleanup/Preservation question
Thanks I cleaned it and left it on. I will post some pics soon
